Need suggestions

Can tell me good engineering schools I can get into because this search has been getting on my nerves.
My UW GPA is basically the same as my W one: 3.03 UW and 3.07 W.
I have bad ECs
Sports: I did Track in 11th grade and I'm planning on trying out for Track and doing weight lifting this year.
Programs: I completed a Pre engineering program in which we did stuff such as work with Series and Parallel circuits and a model hydrogen fuel cell car, I helped fundraise money for a community service program I'm in, I also am currently in another pre engineering program in which we're currently making a styrofoam boat to compete in a competition against other schools.
Classes: No APs most were either full, boring or I don't have the prereqs, I have four honors classes that I did well in, I am currently doing 3 college credit classes two far I did well in and one I did horrible in, I have 6 math classes.

Aerospace Engineering but willing to settle for Mechanical and if those fail Nursing.

SAT is a 960 for math and reading and a 410 writing.

It seems I can't do ***** with a my GPA and ECs scores can better but My GPA seems to just be horrible.

My Current list is
UCONN
Embrey Riddle Aeronautical University
U Maryland College park
Florida Institute of Technology
New york Istitute of Technology
Florida A&M University
Suny At Buffalo
U of Central Florida
City College of New york
CSULB

Pitt? Temple?

Where are you located at? If you want to do Engineering, I would recommend you retaking the SAT’s and trying to get over a 1100 or score over a 650 on Math in order to counter your GPA. Some of those schools you listed would be imo will be an immediate rejection such as UMaryland and UConn. If you want to apply to some of those schools then I would recommend you applying as Undecided compared to Engineering since your chances would be better.

Can you afford OOS public schools?

IF you’ll need financial aid, OOS publics won’t be able to meet need (except for a few top ones that you won’t get accepted to).

Also, you’ll need to avoid schools that require you to apply to their engineering colleges.

However, if you can pay “full freight,” there are some schools with rolling admissions that will accept you but heed this warning…apply to those schools NOW. Schools with rolling admissions can be more forgiving to students with low SATs during the beginning of the admissions season. Those same schools might say “NO,” if you apply later on.

What KIND of school do you want?

Big? Small? Quiet? Sporty -rah rah? rural? city? warm weather? Lots of snow?

What is your home state?

Sorry, CSULB won’t accept you with that SAT. UCF just wait-listed a student with higher SATs than that. I don’t think UConn or UMaryland will accept with your SAT either. You need to look for other schools.

Your M+CR SAT is equal to a ACT 20, which is equal to about 50th percentile.

Pitt and Temple would be significant reaches for the OP.

CT as of Now but I plan to move back to NY after HS.
No I can’t afford OOS schools
Yeah I’ll need plenty of Financial aid.
I Can’t realy tell you what school I want.
Size doesn’t matter I’ve been to big schools that I hated the food and I’ve been to small Schools where I loved it but found them too quiet.

Well CSULB said I need a 1000+ right I have above that so I was thinking it was easy.

I’m applying to so many Florida schools because I have Family down there.

My Problem is I don’t have time my deadlines I’ve set to apply is the 5th of Dec and thats coming up real close and by looking at collegeboard it seems UCONN and CSULB accept many kids with a GPA and SAT lower than mines so I thought they were within my reach, in fact my friend got accepted with a 2.8 W GPA and 1030 for his SAT CR and Math.

My Career Center leader tells me to apply and take the risk but wasting Fee waivers on Colleges I’m unlikely to get into is foolishness.

I’m pretty sure my SATs are higher than 960 now.

*Well CSULB said I need a 1000+ right I have above that so I was thinking it was easy.
*

I believe that CSULB is saying 1000+ (Math + Critical Reading), not for the entire SAT. See below…

**CSULB **
Freshman Academic Profile
Admissions Selectivity Rating: 91

SAT:
Critical Reading Middle 50%: 440 - 550
Math Middle 50%: 460 - 580

Average High School GPA: 3.37
% with GPA 3.75 of higher: 15%
% with GPA 3.50 - 3.74: 23%
% with GPA 3.25 - 3.49: 29%
% with GPA 3.0 - 3.24: 21%

Total applicants: 48,542
Total applicants who are accepted: 20,391

*it seems UCONN and CSULB accept many kids with a GPA and SAT lower than mines so I thought they were within my reach, in fact my friend got accepted with a 2.8 W GPA and 1030 for his SAT CR and Math.

Did your friend get accepted to CSULB or to UConn? That GPA is low for CSULB.

Since you say that you need a lot of financial aid, then you probably shouldn’t apply to your OOS publics. Do you know if your private schools are generous with financial aid?

Nah and I don’t plan on staying in CT anymore. The School I want to go to most is SUNY at Buffalo.

I meant UCONN accepted him and he lives on campus.

Well I heard CSULB is way better than CSUSAC and CSULA which were my first choices. The student reviews said it had a better environment for learning(Better than CSULA couldn’t mind much on CSUSac).

Are those the GPA at the end of there Senior yrs or when they submitted the application because I’m pretty sure mines can reach 3.4 if I get the current grades I’m getting now and boost up my Writing class grade t a C+, I Could do even better if I get all As.

California publics don’t admit using senior year grades, so that GPA would not include 12th year grades.

There are many other schools that would accept you, why are you concentrating on Cal States. Do you realize that they won’t give you OOS financial aid, which you say that you need. You need to apply to schools that can meet your financial need.

I could care less about Calfornia but when I searched for schools atleast 45% were located in Cal and FL and the rest over all over the place.

The main places I want to go to are either in NY or FL. UCONN was highly recommened to me so I put it on there and MASS,NJ, and MD schools were also suggested to me so I tried to include them on my list.

Rochcester Tech doesn’t seem like it’ll accept someone with my GPA and Syracuse was my original reach but then it had requirements that I can’t bypass by the end of my senior year.

CT barely has any schools I’d like to attend other than UCONN

Are you a male or female?

Since you’re interested in engineering or nursing, obviously you’ll need to find schools that have both programs.

Do you know what your family’s EFC will likely be? Do you know how much they’ll contribute to your education each year? If you don’t know their EFC, try the EFC calculator. [FinAid | Calculators | Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and Financial Aid](http://www.finaid.org/calculators/finaidestimate.phtml)

Do any of the SUNY’s interest you besides Buffalo?

No I’m only interested in SUNY Buffalo because it offers both my programs and is pretty good other wise.

What about Tuskegee and Purdue?

I can apply to those and throw out CUNY City College and UMCP.

@mom2collegekids

Male

That’s pretty hard seeing that everytime I use collgeboard the college either has 1 or the other and the few that have both are way OOS and places I’m not interested in going to into the first place. SUNY Buffalo is a place i’d go since its ranked well and I actually heard of it since my mother’s friend grauated from there with a BS in Nursing.

I could care less if the schools big or if it has some big sport team but I do care how well its ranked because then I’d know whether after college I can get a job or not. I know many people become famous and important I wouldn’t mind going to a school like UCF ho has a D1 team but if they are way out of my reach I won’t bother.

I like Publics better because they cost less when I use my basic calculator and adding up the cost. I haven’t considered stuff such as 4th year cost and those only worry me more. I also know that no matter what I do it’s gonna cost my mother and me (hopefully) a lot of money. My mother isn’t even going to look at loans and I seen her throw them away so I expect her to do the same if the bulk of my FA is coming from loans. My Counselor tells me Privates are just as good and give more money but my mind thinks thay give more because they cost more so they aren’t all that good.

My plan is/was apply to colleges then the rest of my year I’ll spend on applying to scholarship(including the small ones) because I know that not everyone is gonna to apply to these 500-1000 dollar scholarships but I am and I’ll be applying to many of them. I also know that I won’t be getting any merit aid so that’s why applying super early wasn’t on my mind.

Well I was interested in Buffalo ever since I found out in had both my majors and was actually ranked well in one of them. It’s the only one I know that has Aerospace and from what the College reps said it is the only one with Aerospace.
