Need the Columbia ID for financial aid application

Hey guys, really need your help here.

I'm applying to Columbia for ED, and I'm applying for fin aid as well. I need the Columbia ID for financial aid application, but it seems that I won't get the ID until I finish the normal application process (Common App)?? But to wait till my teachers and myself to finish the CommApp might be too late--might only submit it at the end of this month. But I hoped to mail out fin aid stuff now (some materials need to be mailed out from another country).

Oh and by the way I saw people talking about "Part 1", "Part 2" of application. What does that mean? CommApp and Columbia supplement?

How? plz give some advice, really appreciate that!!

you have plenty of time to do your financial aid stuff. it’s not due at the same time as your ED app. don’t worry.

Thanks for your answer, that’s quite reassuring:) But is it okay if I mail out the material without an ID, but with my name and birthday on it?

Aren’t you supposed to fax the stuff? I just left the ID part blank. What ID is it even talking about?

I wouldn’t email any materials without putting the ID on it; it’ll just get lost by the admissions department. I’d just wait until you submit the common app and receive your ID in an email before submitting financial aid information.

^ When do you receive that e-mail?

^ supposedly when you submit your common app.

Has anyone received this e-mail who has submitted their ED app? Does anyone know where this Columbia ID is?

D submitted application completely several weeks ago but has not received the Applicant ID.
I noticed on this page: [Applications & Admission Process | Columbia University Office of Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.studentaffairs.columbia.edu/admissions/applications/)

the following:
“After an application is submitted, the applicant should receive a confirmation e-mail indicating successful submission. At a later date, the applicant should receive an acknowledgement e-mail that will provide a unique applicant ID number. With this ID number, the applicant is expected to track the status of the submitted application and the receipt of all associated documents using our online tracking system.”

^ I didn’t know that… I submitted my fin aid documents before I got the Columbia ID, so I left the Columbia ID part blank (I assumed only admitted students had one…). However, my name and my birth date were on it. Do you guys suggest that I resubmit the documents and list my Columbia ID now that I’ve received it?

well, i can say that you don’t need it for the CSS profile thing, it gets sent straight to columbia and they don’t need an ID on it. and i sent mine in yesterday.

but they’d want the ID on the stuff you fax in cause then they can identify it and put it with your app. you should probably resubmit cause i doubt they really have the time to chase down your application, especially with all of the stuff they have coming in now.

D received the ID today via email. The application was submitted around Sept 20.
