Need to amend FAFSA after filing 1040, applied to 12 schools

Hi everyone, I'm new here but have been reading these forums for months, trying to negotiate this tricky process.

We filed the FAFSA for 2010-2011 back in January with estimated tax info for 2009. Now that we have completed our 2009 taxes, we need to amend the FAFSA numbers (right?). But my daughter sent her FAFSA results to more than ten schools. What's the best way to amend the FAFSA? Should we make the corrections and submit to the first 10 schools, then delete those 10 schools and submit again with the last 2 schools? How can we tell when the first 10 schools get the info and it's safe to delete and re-submit to the next batch of schools? thanks everyone.

Just do it exactly as you say. Amend first, which gives you a “permanent correct” FAFSA. Have as many codes as possible on that one. It processes and locks for 3-4 days. When it has processed and unlocked, delete the codes you need to, to fit the other schools. The first schools can STILL see the corrected FAFSA, even if their codes are not on the second corrected FAFSA.

I am working with someone who applied to 30 schools (all free apps.) and has to do this every 2-3 days for over a week. Boy is her life going to be complicated!

And I’m told that schools get notification (email?) when FAFSA corrections are submitted to them.

So as long as the FAFSA system allows me submit corrections, then it has already processed the previous corrections and I can delete the old schools? It sounds pretty failsafe - like it’s not even possible to delete schools before they get the submitted FAFSA, right?
