Need to choose between Georgia Tech and UT Austin for Electical and Computer Engineering Program

My son got admission to both Georgia Tech and UT Austin. His major is Electrical and Computer Engineering. Since we live in Texas, we get to pay instate tuition fee ($11K) at UT. In Georgia Tech, we need to pay out of state fee (31K). He didn’t get any financial aid in both the universities. With travel costs and other costs, we are looking at about $23K more per year in Georgia Tech versus UT Austin. We have to spend about $90K in total for his bachelors degree in Georgia Tech.

Obviously Georgia Tech has a better name recognition and ranking than UT Austin. But is it worth spending that much money for Georgia Tech? I would like to get your opinions/suggestions for my son to choose the right university.

Thank you in advance for sharing your experiences and suggestions,
Meena

No brainer… go with UT Austin. UT is on par with GTech for Eng and CS. My D2 attends GTech.

UT Austin is a great school, go with in-state for BS. Good luck! My son is at Tech and loves it, but we live in GA…
