My D got an email to her guidance office tghat she will be accepted if she takes trigonometry or precalc next semester. Unfortunately our HS does not go on semesters so she cant just switch from Prb/stat. Does anyone know if she could take it in the summer ? This is crazy that they are making her have that to get in. Otherwise she would be accepted so annoyed at my HS for not knowing this we are in PA

You might look into taking a math class at a community college in your area, if you have one. Also, if you don’t have a cc nearby, maybe you can take a math class online. Community colleges all have lots of high school level math classes. You could clear it with IU before taking the class to make sure they accept it.

Several other posters were also not aware of the IU standard that prospective admits take trig or pre-calc. Since this is the first year for this standard, there was some uncertainty as to how IU might interpret that standard. Based upon what you have posted, IU will stick with this standard. Although the standard has been published and the information available on the admissions website for at least 4 years, it has caught a few people by surprise.

bthomp’s suggestion is worth considering. There are a number of ways to take this online.

This statement was sent to HS gc on Friday in an IU newsletter. See below

Info about the math requirement: Students applying for fall 2012 must complete seven semesters of mathematics, including one semester of pre-calculus, trigonometry, or calculus. Read more about freshman admission requirements here. If you have students needing additional math credits, we recommend considering a dual credit course titled College Algebra, Pre-calculus, or Trigonometry from a regionally accredited institution.

thanks- she may haveto take a virtual precalc class I have to callIU and see if that is acceptable
