I will attend UConn next fall and hope to go to the School of Biz. However, I want to transfer to a UC. I was looking into UCLA, UC Irvine and possibly Santa Barbara and Berk

Can I transfer after my first year?

What is the average GPA needed for transfers? I will major in finance at UConn and will either do economics or biz management at UC.

Thoughts, suggestions?

Also, are SAT scores necessary for transfers?

Sat scores are not necessary for transfer. It is very difficult to transfer from a 4-year university. And since there are no set agreed courses from uConn some of your courses might not transfer. I recommend contacting the UC counselor

If you’re going to a 4 year, there is a certain number of units you can’t surpass in order to eventually transfer (I think its around 20-30, but double check…)
Since you’ll be out of state and from a 4 year institution, you’re at a disadvantage. It won’t be impossible, but it will be VERY competitive (especially business)
I would suggest to keep your GPA well above a 3.85. I would also suggest you get involved with clubs, volunteer work and internships (all related to your major).
good luck!
also, i love your username! GO LAKERS!

I really want to be in CA for college, is it worth working hard and getting my hopes up if I can’t get in? I had a good GPA in HS, but how do I know if my UConn credits could transfer?

That’s the thing, you have to contact the UC counselor. Get in contact with a UC school, depending on the one’s you want to transfer to, and email/call/etc them.

The only reason why its more difficult for an OOS + 4-year University student is because this is a Californian tax-payer funded schools. They want to cater to California students; so technically, they would look at an University OOS students last. Is it impossible? No. But can you still get rejected with a very impressive GPA and stats? Yes. I recommend attending a California Community College.

lawlking is right. It is very difficult to transfer from an OOS university. If you want to transfer to a UC, go to a California CC. They have agreements with the UCs. Business is very impacted for most of those schools, so good luck if you’re try to transfer from an OOS, it’s pretty unlikely that you would get in.

They are “actual schools.” Like, I don’t know what more they need to qualify as a school in your brain - they have teachers, students, learning, etc.

You don’t seem to understand the problem. Again, no matter what you major in, it is very difficult to transfer from an OOS college. It’s not impossible, but highly unlikely.

Why are you do set on a UC anyway? They are really expensive and IMO, not worth it. For the 50k you’d be spending, you could go to a private school with much more personalization.
