Need ur help: UCSB VS Umich

Hi everyone,

I am going to US for graduate study this fall, majoring in ECE and want to work there in software companies after study. Now I'd like to choose from UCSB (Computer Engineering) and Umich (EE, but could take cs courses). Considering graduate study and future work opportunities, which school should I go to?

The tuition of Umich for me is $42k per year while UCSB is $27k. By estimation Umich will cost 62k in total while UCSB 47k. Well this could mean a lot more than it seems I think. But how does industry think of UCSB graduates ? (I know the university is called a party school...)

Check out UCSB’s ranking for CE. If the engineering students are partying, they are brilliant multitaskers. Which they well may be, however, it is their skills the industry is interested in, and social skills on top of that don’t hurt. <a href=“College of Engineering News | College of Engineering - UC Santa Barbara”>College of Engineering News | College of Engineering - UC Santa Barbara;

UCSB is very well thought of in computer engineering.

To the poster @collegevetting above, thx! I just hope UCSB enjoys same reputation as Umich in industry! Perhaps I am international and UCSB has fewer international graduates, I heard it less than other UC schools.

Are you sure? Is UC giving you any aid? As an international, you will also be billed for the non-resident supplemental of $22.8k.

Thanks! @bluebayou For graduate it is $15.1k, that makes the tuition for ucsb $28k. Anyway, would UC companies be friendly to wolverines? Or ucsb gets more attention? CA is such a nice place, I want to work there after graduation if possible.
