My daughter got 3 offers from UIUC, NU and WUST in engineering school, but she has no idea which one is best for her. Could anyone give some input? BTW, we are living in Illinois.

My son applied to and has been admitted to engineering both at Illinois and Northwestern. Both schools are great programs and your daughter would not go wrong choosing either. My son is choosing Northwestern for these two main reasons:

Evanston/Chicago versus Champaign-Urbana: he thinks he prefers a more urban setting

Size of engineering school: Northwestern’s is smaller and he thinks he would like that better

We don’t live in Illinois, and while UIUC would be cheaper for us compared with NU, it still is not inexpensive. For you, since you live in Illinois, it would be a much better value for your daughter to go to UIUC as it is a top-ranked engineering school and you have in-state tuition in your favor.

Unless you do BME, WashU engineering is questionable. It was a mess like last year or two years ago with lots of drama/politics. The dean had to step down. Not sure what the current status is. Even before that, its engineering school wasn’t considered at the same level as UIUC or NU’s. It also has less breadth which is a factor for people not sure about which engineering to go with.

I think it’s between NU vs UIUC. Do take cost into consideration; I’d pick NU if the cost isn’t too different; otherwise, I’d go to UIUC.
