<p>for EARLY DECISION/EARLY ACTION, how badly does applying for financial aid affect ur chances? </p>
<p>from what i read, with the current state of the world economy, applying ED/EA without financial aid is a huge plus, since ur paying a lotta money</p>
<p>but im just wondering...if u DO apply for financial aid, how much does it affect ur chances?</p>

<p>Depends on the school. If a school has need-blind admissions, applying for financial aid will have no impact.</p>
<p>However, it is in most cases a big mistake to apply ED if finances are a consideration. Although colleges let students back out of ED if the college can't meet their need, realize that it's the college, not your family, that determines if it met your financial need.</p>
<p>Consequently, if the college gives you $5,000 a year and says it has met your full need, yet your parents say you need $20 k a year to go to the college, the college will still believe it has met your need. At best, the college will release you from ED in order to go to an in state public, where presumably your costs will be cheaper. It won't release you to go to a competing private that gave you a $25 k merit scholarship.</p>
<p>Colleges also also tell competing colleges which students were accepted ED. The competing colleges will rescind admission or not consider such students for admission.</p>

<p>As Northstarmom said. This depends on the school. I know several applicants who got into their dream LAC early and got like 45k financial aid. </p>
<p>Of course applying ED AND requesting fin aid will decrease your chances in non need-blind schools (which means most of them). If schools were to choose between applicants with the same academic potential, it is only natural that they prefer those who will pay the school more money. Not sure what's the point in asking. You HAVE TO apply for aid if you need them, right?</p>
<p>Since you are an International not applying for aid, the schools that might give you an advantage would be the ones that say they are "need-aware." If you apply to "need-blind" schools, the ability to pay full price won't help.</p>
<p>Look on each school's admissions/financial aid webpage - it will plainly state if they are need-blind.</p>

I could be wrong, but I thought Internationals had to submit some sort of statement that they could pay for their education without financial aid. (Something about qualifying for a student visa?) Which would, in essence, make all US colleges need-aware for Internationals. Hopefully someone with more knowledge about International students can give you a better answer.</p>
