I am considering applying Early Decision to Penn.
I know all of the great things the school has to offer.
What I want to know is, what will I DISLIKE about life at Penn? What would turn me away, or make me reconsider?
Thanks!!

The only thing that comes to mind is the crime rate. And it's not like it's Baghdad or anything, but it is certainly more of an issue than, say, a school in the middle of nowhere.

At any rate it certainly wasn't enough to stop me...or the other 22,000 applicants ;)

Not enough hot girls. I think that's a legit thing, except it holds true for basically all good schools. I should have gone to USC, or Florida.

The absurdly expensive on-campus laundry facilities

This thread calls for some state school jokes.
But I won't make them.

there are lots of puddles.

it should be noted that momofwildchild hates penn as well as kittens

Johnny- you are quite wrong. I actually WENT to Penn for part of undergrad and my son is going back. I don't think it is worth $45K a year and I think Philadelphia is a crappy city (I grew up there), but I don't hate Penn. I appreciated my son's reasons for looking at transferring, and his assessment of the campus life is accurate. That has nothing to do with hating Penn. I think his degree will serve him well.

the girls at penn are very good-looking compared to most decent schools. i transferred from umich and penn definitely has better girls.

"I don't think it is worth $45K a year..."

Uh, that's more or less the going rate for private universities, you know. So either you're singling out Penn among top schools, or you should have added: "no school is worth that, either."

He hasn't attended all schools. He didn't feel PENN was worth it. I think I've made that pretty clear.

Maybe it was clear to you, but what's clear to you doesn't seem to be clear to many others.

Sweet Jesus. I don't know what is more tragic, that the monty python reference went clear over this moderator's head, or that someone else actually took offense to it.

She must weigh the same as a duck.

MONTY PYTHON IS AWESOME. ahem

She turned me into a newt!

...I got better

For each year you live at UPenn, you will be shanked seven times.

"He didn't feel PENN was worth it. I think I've made that pretty clear."

I'll say you have!!

well just few little things I hate while I was at Penn.

~the weather sucks. cold during winter, hot and humid during summer
~administrative staff is not exactly friendly, most of them didn't smile when I talked to them.
~crappy dorm room, expensive laundry facilities.
~ghetto area in west philly, although there are many penn guards patrolling campus 24/7 but still....
~intense rivalry among schools esp between the SAS, SEAS people and wharton. Sometimes in lectures the profs would "jokingly" mock the other depts.
~I heard many stories about people mixing up Penn state and Penn, and it irritates many penn students as if their dignity was crushed. Which kinda shows how preppy they are.
~I don't know about the undergrad, but grad student has to pay for gym membership (which is like $200/semester) and this kinda shows how far Penn would go to get your money. (along with expensive yet ugly housing on campus) oh and not to mention you can only view your transcript 3 times a day (what's up with that? limiting bandwidth fee for penn webserver?) and the expensive transcript ordering fee ($10 for a copy wth??)

that pretty much sums up my dislike of penn.
