Negotiating Financial Aid

I am intending on applying ED this year, although recently my family has raised concern about financial aid. My family makes around $60000 so it is a definite must for college. While there is a strong chance that I will be rejected, there is always the possibility and hope that I get in. If the financial aid is not enough, would I be able to negotiate? Has anyone been successful in the past? If possible I want to steer clear of loans.

anyone???

You shouldn’t negotiate, but rather ask for another review of your file because you are not sure if the current offer would work for you. I have no idea of the success rate, but if the financial aid offer is not enough, then you have nothing to lose by asking. If you don’t ask, you are not going to Rice. If you do ask, you might or might not be going. Its worth a try.

From what I understand, it may help with the review to submit copies of more generous financial aid offers from comparable institutions, e.g., Vanderbilt, Cornell, or Duke.

we negotiated our financial aid. We just sent an email explaining why we needed more grant money and Rice increased our monies.
