Nerves and Anxiety

Hi, any tips or tricks on how to face test anxiety? I really want to score higher on the ACT but I keep freaking myself out which impacts my score. Any advice would be great

Not that my children are hyper intelligent or don’t have to try, but neither of them is freaked out by tests. Why? Because they are prepared. They study. And as a test prep tutor, I tell my students the same: if you are ready and prepared, there is nothing to be nervous about. So my tip is be be ready. Know the format, take practice tests, and have realistic expectations. If you consistently get 26 and are freaking out that you can’t get higher becasue you want to get into Harvard, that is counter productive. Find schools in which your grades and test scores are solidly at or above the 50th percentile. If you score higher than expected, that’s a bonus and you can adjust your list. If you do worse than expected, it’s not the end of the world. Yiu can retake, or find test-optional collegs that would, love to have you. Being anxious about the test is counter-productive and will not help your score, so know the test well and be ready for it.
