Nervous About Transferring

Hello. Well, the title pretty much sums it up - I'm pretty nervous about transferring.

I am currently a Community College student who will be attending Saint Mary's College of California this upcoming spring.

I currently live in Southern California and Saint Mary's is located in the East Bay up north.

I'm 19 and I understand that it is a part of life to go out and experience new things. It's a part of growing up.

Do you have any tips or suggestions on how to make this transition run more smoothly for me? I'm pretty nervous about not being prepared due to the amount of work some private colleges require. I know I'm definitely capable of doing it but since I've been at a Community College for the last year and a half, I'm pretty nervous about that.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Have a good week.

You will be fine. You are prepared or they would not have accepted you. This is similar to the set of worries that many hs seniors have about starting college and we give them the same advice. The colleges know who can succeed in their institutions and that is how they do their admissions.

Apply yourself, go to every class (I know you will). In the off-chance that you find the academics overly difficult, take immediate steps such as meeting with profs, going to Academic Support office (whatever it’s called at your school), getting study partners/study groups.

On the non-academic front, take advantage of all Transfer Orientation opportunities. Join clubs/orgs that interest you. As soon as you are involved, your nervousness will take care of itself.

Good luck.
