I am really, really nervous about junior year, especially SATs..
I got an 1860 on my soph PSAT, and I am shooting for a 2200+ on my real junior SAT. What is the best time to take it? I plan on taking it in November. Also, What is the best way to study and achieve your target score?

I'm involved in a lot of other stuff...Tae Kwon Do, AP/ Honors courses, Piano Lessons, Co-Leader in Cultural Youth Group, Leadership Training Program [from temple]

I'm extremely nervous. Although it's summer, I can't stop thinking about how much I'll have to do as a junior.

First and foremost, relax. I’ve seen your other post and you have a nice record so far. Yes, you’ll want to improve your test score but if you’re conscientious and simply apply yourself in test preparation, you’ll get a natural increase in your score because most people do better the second time.

In junior year, be careful not to overextend yourself. Concentrate in things about which you are passionate.

If you feel you really need assistance with the SAT, and you can afford it, get a private tutor and set up regular sessions over a period of two to three months.

But most importantly, relax.

Don’t worry about your PSAT scores-- my SAT is 300 points higher than my predicted score. Just maintain grades and continue being dedicated to your ECs, and you should do brilliantly ;- )

Just do lots of practice problems. That seems to be the only guaranteed way to increase your score. Go buy those SAT review books and just do as many practice tests as you have time for (don’t compromise your grades or EC’s just for the SAT).

I was in a similar predicament. I also had a busy Junior year, but my practice SAT scores were in the 1900s, whereas I had hoped for something 2200+. Two months of SAT practice over the summer helped me achieve my 2340 – didn’t have any tricks or anything – just lots of practice.

I know it’s been like 4 days, but thank you so much for all the positive input. You have restored my hope. I will definately continue doing those practice tests. Currently, I’m taking Kaplan [classroom] classes. Thank You So Much!
