Nervous RD applicant.

I don't know where to start really. The admissions for the ED seem to be all over the board, and I have to admit, my standardized tests scores aren't so great. The Cornell Engineering program is just so fantastic, I just feel I dont have the stuff to make it into it (as much as I hope I can).

ACT 30, 760 IIc, 680 Physics, AP Lang & Comp 5.
My grades have done nothing but gone up, (101 average last quarter, around 102 for this quarter) .
Rank is 9 as of the beginning of this year, however I'd imagine it is around 7-8 now.
I am taking the most rigorous course schedule available at my school.

ECs: Consistent progression and participation throughout golf, French club and NHS.
Volunteer 100 hours, and started clothing drive.
Participation in various Chemistry and Math extra curriculars.
Various other activities.

Interview: Went very well I think, explained my interest in engineering and Cornell, showed my dedication and Cornell as my first choice of a university.

Awards: 4th in Australia for math competition
Rensselaer medalist
Pre-Cal Award along with a bunch of other subjects in the 11th grade.
3rd in district for math, progressed to state.

Hook: 7 years in Australia, 2 years in Canada. No financial aid, live in an "under represented area of the country"

Essays and Rec: Essay is essentially a satire on becoming an engineer, but I personally think it is good. Common app is about my stuggles coming back to America. Recs are supposedly fantastic. I have also written a letter explaining my position and telling them why I didn't apply ED.

Sorry that this turned into a "chance me" thread, I just sort of needed some consolation, and a reality check.

"turned into a chance thread," or was one from the start?:)

regardless, looks like you have a great chance.

I really didn't intend for it to be one, but eh. :P

Thanks for your reply. Holidays are horrible, no chance to take my mind off colleges :(.

come on you dont want to go to cornell anyways, if im not good enough to even get deferred then im sorry but it will be tough for you

Whoa now, didn't have to go and make it personal. Cornell is an amazing university, why wouldn't I want to go there?

noone on here can effectively chance you. as long as you apply you have a chance. good luck, man. seriously though, you're only 18 once, don't waste it worrying about college too much

Wordup32 is right. Getting into any of these very competitive schools is in part a healthy dose of luck. No one here can tell you, even based on their own experience. What an admissions rep sees in one candidate and not in another can go beyond grades and test scores. Do a great job on your application, present who you are, and the rest is a black box. Try not to get stuck on going to one college, especially an extremely difficult one to get into. There are lots of schools out there that you would probably be happy to attend, so stay focused on that.
