So this might seem like kind of an odd question, but is the U a super rigorous/smart-people school? I recently enrolled as a freshman for the fall, and I'm a little nervous about some of the classes and whether it'll be too much..
I've got a 3.69 GPA, and a 27 on my ACT. I've only taken 1 AP class(AP Psych), and 3 years of English honors(they got rid of it this year @ my school so I had to bump down to regular brit lit). I work really hard to keep my grades up, and i guess I'm just afraid it'll be too much and I'll be overwhelmed by all the super smart people around me. I'll be majoring in psychology in CLA.
I know this might seem a bit ridiculous, but the idea of me not being able to keep up with my grades kind of freaks me out(there's a lot of expectations in my family to be perfect). To current/former students, was the transition pretty easy for you as a freshman? and any advice to get myself easily acclimated to the U? Thanks so much in advance for any help, anything to help me calm my nerves is much appreciated.

I’m a current freshman at another school right now, and I had much, much worse stats than you. Depending on the high school you went, you’ll have some easier classes in college than in high school. I have a 3.5 GPA right now, and that’s better than I had in high school. If you work hard, go to tutoring, talk to TAs/Professors etc when you need it. You’ll be just fine. If you party all day, don’t go to class, and don’t do your homework, you will not be fine.

hey may I ask whether you are in-state or OOS? cuz I want to know more about if its hard and competitive to be admitted as a psychology major. (one of my best friends is planning to go for a psych major at UMN)

@YuffieEvans I’m out of state(Wisconsin), but we have reciprocity so idk if that would make a difference on the competitiveness of admission or not.

I think you will be fine. It may be kind of a shock because the average intelligence level of your peers goes up pretty high from high school to college so you may have to work harder. However, it is very manageable it just involves you perservering.

Besides that, your GPA is fine and your ACT is fine so you will probably do well at the U with some hard work. Unless you give up, you probably won’t fall behind.
