Hello, I am thinking of transferring out to those four school for economics program for Spring 2017. I have attended college in Asia, and am Asian(Intl’ student). Among four schools, Northeastern, American, Minnesota Twin-Cities, Wisconsin-Madison, which one would be better in terms of academic and career aspect.
Appreciate any comment. Thank you.
Is cost a factor?
Wisconsin does not grant financial aid to international students.
Minnesota does, but the average award for 2015-16 was less than $3000.
NEU does; the average award for 2015-16 was over $19K.
I don’t know about American. Your results at Minnesota or NEU may differ significantly from the averages; you’d need to consider net cost (not just the award amounts).
For research in economics, I think Wisconsin and Minnesota are stronger than American or NEU. I don’t know how much that would matter to you as an undergraduate. AU’s or NEU’s locations might be more desirable especially for international students. They’re all in the USNWR top 75, if that matters to you. I’d probably lean toward NEU for its Boston location and apparently relatively good aid for internationals (especially if the co-op program appeals to you.)
Thank you for your reply! BTW you feel that NEU would be slightly better than AU?
They seem to be close enough that it would make sense to choose based on net price or personal preferences.
