D has applied to this summer program for rising high school seniors. The program is completely free - “for top students engaged in Hispanic/Latino communities”. The quote from from their website.
Has anyone attended this program before?
I would like to know how competitive is the admission process? How was the program for you? Any other details…
I too applied for this program. I read that decisions are made by or before April 2. I also read on the Neubauer page a comment by a former student that they had like 30 students last year.
My guess is that it’s pretty competitive. I imagine any all expense paid summer scholarship class to be pretty competitive, it’s also looking for really involved Hispanic students so that adds another dimension. I really don’t know much more, I’m in the same boat you’re in.
I have looked through every forum on the Neubuarer Summer Scholars Program and I have only seen either acceptances or rejections. I am not sure what to do since I am waitlisted. If anyone knows the size of the waitlist or if we should send them a letter… I am honestly not sure what to do. I was expecting either a yes or no. If anyone knows a previous person who has gone and would be willing to sure their usernames I would greatly appreciate it. I want to ask if they know of anyone who has gotten off the waitlist in previous years and if there is anything I can do to help place myself higher on the list. I know for colleges it can sometimes help to write a letter but I am not sure what to do for this summer program… Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I know this is way after the question was uploaded, but I thought I’d give a response in case people end up on this forum in the future. The Neubauer Summer Adelante program is absolutely incredible, and it is highly competitive. 40 students are accepted and approximately 500 people applied. The University provided room & board, classes/seminars, course materials, and anything else you can think of. The program director even took us on weekend trips into neighborhoods across Chicago and gave admissions meetings three times a week (to discuss the college application process). The classes are very intense (because we were on campus for only three weeks) and were taught by kind and helpful professors/teaching assistants. I took the Collegiate Writing course and absolutely loved it! The program also fosters such an amazing community of high-achieving latinos! If you are considering applying, I really encourage you to put in the work!
