I know that Amherst had the first neuroscience program in the country or something, but I want to know how good it actually is. I just visited Amherst today and fell in love with it, but what will seal the deal withme is if the neuroscience program is good and the professors are really good. so personal experience? anybody? =] thanks!

I have a friend who chose Amherst Neuroscience over Cornell, Johns Hopkins, and UPenn. That's saying something.

The kids who majored in Neuroscience at Amherst usually get into the best med and grad progams, if that is any consolation :)

I'm in Introduction to Bio Psych with professor Baird and its great. Baird's lectures are engaging, interesting, and entertaining and Baird does a very good job of integrating all of the material into a cohesive whole. He's also very good at answering questions and will re-explain a concept in several different ways until you get it. If he doesn't know an answer - which doesn't happen very often - he will say so and look it up for the next class. Lectures are all well-designed powerpoints, and he gives out copies of the slides and outlines of the lecture, as well as making the entire powerpoints and past tests available for download. Despite that, I've never been tempted to skip a lecture because they are so good. The only downside is that a lot of material is covered, so tests can be pretty stressful, but they are well-designed and graded fairly.
