I want to major in neuroscience and I'm currently a high school junior- how should I prepare? What neuro related ECs are there for me to do?

Bump bump.

I was interested in Neuroscience and was an aspiring Neuroscientist not so long ago. I was majoring in Biochemistry. But then I discovered that if you majored in Psychology B.S, it would prepare you more because at my school, psychology b.s majors have to take all the lower div organic chemistry, chemistry, physics, math, and Bio that Biochemistry have to and grad school requires. However, say that if you don’t get a high enough GPA or you choose to not go into grad school, a psychology degree at the undergrad level would be useless in terms of helping you find a job.

So I would go with Biochemistry degree. That way, if you change your mind about Neuroscience and/or grad school, then you can use your biochemistry degree to continue Biochemistry education or as lab technician.

Ok, sorry. I read your question incorrectly. The reason why I told you which major to major in is because most schools don’t offer Neuroscience major. Very few schools do.

As for preparation in High school, just make sure you have a good foundation in chemistry, physics, and especially Pre-cal, and ideally Calculus.

Good for you! I also plan to major in behavioral neuroscience (hopefully at Quinnipiac University) on a pre-med track. Right now I’m taking pre-cal and physics (junior year). Next year, im planning to take calculus, ap bio, ap psychology, and sociology. I think these courses correpond to to the field of neuroscience…right?
