Which of the two schools is better for undergraduate study of neuroscience? That's what I am planning to major in [ after flip flopping among many ], and I'm planning to go to med school to either go for and M.D. in neurology or a Ph.D. in neuroscience.

I would go with Berkeley over UCLA. From a rankings standpoint, Berkeley is in the top 10 of neuroscience programs and UCLA is not. Also, Berkeley is #2 in overall biology while UCLA is #24.

Even if they were close I think I would still go with Berkeley for mainly aesthetic reasons. I was just doing a google map tour (you’d be surprised at how in-depth and fun this can be) of Berkeley the other day and was just blown away with the look and feel of campus.

Have you considered UCSF or UCSD? I noticed in the neuroscience rankings that they are #3 and #7 respectively.

It is just rankings. I would base your decision based on whether you feel more comfortable in north cali or south cali. Med schools won’t even care whether its UCLA vs. UCB.

Berkeley doesn’t have a neuroscience major.

it’s called cognitive science (which is a watered down psych major) or neurobiology (biology lol).

neuroscience is the same thing as neurobiology.
