"&& not much of its acceptees receive financial aid."

"Two-thirds of Harvard students receive financial aid, and the average grant award for next year is expected to be more than $33,000, or 70 percent of the total cost of attendance."

Basically, So Authentic, I was just curious as to what is the basis of the assumption that most blacks at Harvard are rich. If you say that my observations aren't a valid way to evaluate that statement, and you have no experience at Harvard or in Cambridge, then where did you get this information?

The thing about most blacks at Harvard being rich I got from a black friend who just graduated. All I really think is that AA should be for the underprivileged, not those of a certain skin color. Why do we even need the race factor - put the economically disadvantaged on an even playing field and you're still helping out the many blacks who deserve it while preserving selection based on merit. AA's a good idea, I just think with a little redirecting it can be more effective and fair. I would like to see colleges with blacks, latinos, etc. all represented in higher numbers using a system like this.

Maybe that used to be the case, but in recent years (say the last 3 years or so) Harvard has admitted their most racially and economically diverse classes. Therefore, most blacks at Harvard are no longer rich.

While that is possible, I just don't see it. As a student at Harvard, I have never observed that most of the black people there are rich. If you have some source of information, observations, anecdotes, stats or otherwise, proving that most blacks at Harvard are in fact rich, I'd be glad to see it.

Did you guys not listen to the admin officer who commented. They just said that a lot of your assumptions are wrong. Not you hotpiece or kk. And hotpiece I appreciate your input of experiences at Harvard. At least it's from a valid source and not from something you heard from a friend of a friend

I thought that was really weird too. I was legitimately confused as to what calculations he was doing. Now I'm not sure if he's a troll or not. I don't want to take for granted the fact that 4th grader should be able to do that math, but at the same time I just don't understand how he couldn't do it...
