Never taken ACT

I’ve never taken the ACT and Junior year is almost over. It’ll be my first this Tuesday, Feb. 28th. I’m smart, but not uber smart and I’m most worried about the math portion. I’m striving for above a 26 or I’m going to hate myself. Any specific tips?

Do your best, but treat it as a dress rehearsal. Plan to take it again later this year. If you’re happy with your score, you’re done. If you want to improve it, this dress rehearsal will help you determine where you need to study and practice.
Good luck!

Thank you, I’ve been taking practice tests like no one’s business but I’m still worried.

Try not to worry! You will have another chance, but feel good you have been practicing! Here are a few tips that helped my kids. Get a good night sleep the evening before. Also try to eat a healthy and balanced meal the night before and for breakfast, and water to stay hydrated. For a snack during the test, my kids both liked a protein bar or some chocolate. The little pick me up can get you through the last hour. Some also find chewing gum can help with concentration. Good luck!

Hey! I’m a junior too and I’m also taking the test on the 28th.

I’d say just get an ACT textbook, crack it open, and start reviewing. You’d also want to be able to work under a massive time crunch and under a lot of pressure (I personally found the science portion to be the most difficult). But just relax, and know that you can take it again if you’re not satisfied with your score. Hope this helped!

Go through each section by just answering ones you know FOR SURE. Don’t get stuck looking at problems you’re confused about or problems that take a little more thinking time. Circle the question in the test packet and move on! Come back to it at the very end so that you can look at it with fresh eyes and (hopefully) without as much pressure (since you left yourself time to look at it by finishing all the easier questions).

If you really don’t know how to solve something, just guess! The ACT doesn’t penalize you for guessing, so take advantage of that! Don’t leave any question unanswered. And, as always, budget your time and ALWAYS know how much time you have left. Hope this helps! Good luck!
