I already paid a $2,589.00 educational fee for 2010 Winter Quarter. Why wasn't this new educational fee included in that amount??? They're busting my balls!!!

Therefore, god doesn't exist.

Therefore, god doesn't exist.

Which “New $150 Educational Fee” are you talking about? I don’t see one on my account and I don’t see it listed on the fee page breakdown (not that I doubt you, but that’s odd it isn’t included on the fee page):

[UCSC Registration Fees](UC Santa Cruz Registration Fees)

The fees were already increased up to $2,589 to include the 32% increase on the linked page. I have the same fee plus the Undergraduate Campus fees ($357.67) and my Registration Fee ($300). I’m still waiting on my Health Insurance fee ($383).

Estrellatuya, you should go occupy Kerr Hall. ;]

Seriously though, my charges are the same as Kender’s, my account doesn’t show the fee you speak of.

http://webpages.charter.net/kroeker/allie/nogod.JPG

well i hope that charge confuses you guys as much as it confuses me

If you do occupy Kerr Hall or anywhere else, try not to damage it ;). Kind of defeats the purpose of opposing fees if one is going to just cause more to occur.

Anywho, that is odd, but I don’t see an additional $150 charge on your activity page. I did some math and I think I figured out what the problem is:

300 + 357.67 + 2,589 = 3,246.67
3,246.67 - 2,996.67 = 250
250 - 100 = 150

It seems when you pay, the last place it deducts from is under the educational fees (campus fees and registration fees appear to be the first ones that get knocked out). We have something similar at my campus where the student body fee is the last charge that gets removed with your payments. This way, students must have all of their fees paid off to even obtain a card because you cannot get a card without paying the student body fee.

The $100 you paid for your SIR was credited (so it appears and was always my understanding of the SIR) towards Winter 2010 fees. Thus it lowers the cost of your fees due by $100 from $250 making it: $150 left to cover.

When you submitted payment, did you minus both the $100 SIR fee and the $150 housing down payment fee? The housing down payment fee will only be credited towards your housing charges which we will not receive until we receive our housing assignments.

So it’s not a new fee, but I can see where the confusion came in :)

Haha, yeah, it certainly has. You should call the student business services office tomorrow and find out *** is going on.

Also, now that you’ve definitively disproved the existence of any god(s), why the hell are you even being charged tuition??

Damn it, Kender. You are ****ing amazing, and never cease to amaze me. I want to be you when I grow up. Unless I’m older than you, in which case I will go back in time and jump off a bridge.

I’m 24 (May 1985), but I’m lucky if I look at least 18 on a good day XD? My old high school still asks me for a hall pass when I go visit before they remember I graduated from there in 2003.

I’m just glad to help :). I know we’re all stressed and are not able to always look at things quite as logically and clearly as we should. It’s a terrible cliche, but I know I tend to suffer from “can’t see the forest for the trees” quite often myself. If it’d been my account, I might not have caught it. It actually took me a day or so to even realize why my charges were so low compared to the spread sheet I made until I noticed there was no health fee charge yet!

Definitely a relief to know there isn’t some new secret $150 educational fee, haha. My next guess was going to be course fees being labeled as educational fees (or a major specific set of fees labeled as such), but that was too far-fetched since neither have we registered for our classes nor have we officially declared our majors (and I don’t recall in major specific charges, just course specific charges).

http://webpages.charter.net/kroeker/allie/salliemae.JPG

so the $150 will count towards a later bill on sallie mae? -sigh-

dirty billows

my money’s no good here

The $150 is a housing down payment. Therefore, it can only be used for housing costs ):. Some scholarships and aid can only be used for certain aspects of your bill too. It even gets worse in that you can be taxed on any grant or scholarship money that is used to pay for room and board costs ;).

What I don’t understand is why Sallie Mae is telling you a different amount than you actually owe. They appear to be counting the housing down payment as knocking off some of your school charges. Thus making your current Sallie Mae bill as cleared while UCSC’s charges show something entirely different.

I would take empirescrumble’s suggestion and contact Student Business Services:
[SBS Home page](http://sbs.ucsc.edu/)

Something is definitely off that Sallie Mae is charging the improper amount. Although, the housing and tuition/other campus fees are due the same day. Perhaps Sallie Mae is thinking that all bills will come in at the same time? I just logged into my Sallie Mae and it shows the full $3,246.87 (my SIR and housing down payment were deferred).

Good luck :)

hm… are you sure you’re not just in denial of a new $150 tuition fee

jk jk honestly its not a big deal, im sure everything will make sense by december 17.
