UC has approved new admissions criteria for the 2012+ applicants.
Have you heard about these new admissions policies?

***, no more SAT 2’s?

the discussion about cutting sat2s have been going on for forever; it’s about time it disappeared.

If you read the website, it says they still recommend them. People will still take them most likely.

SAT II subject tests were way better indicators of competence than SAT i.

^exactly true.

SAT Subjects actually reflect stuff you learn in school, SAT Reasoning is stuff you learning outside of school often using expensive books and classes.

bump…

I could not agree more with inconnu.

Wait a minute. Using my grades from high school, I determined that I exceed the UC Score total, so I would be guaranteed admission to a UC campus. I had pretty crappy grades in high school, and I didn’t even bother applying to Berkeley because I knew I wouldn’t get in. I’m assuming that I would be automatically accepted to Merced or something, but Berkeley would require a whole lot more?

^pyroza definitely. you need to be far above the minimum to get into Berkeley… though I really don’t know how much farther.

[University of Calif. admissions rule angers Asian-Americans - USATODAY.com](http://www.usatoday.com/news/education/2009-04-24-university-california-asian_N.htm)

the percentage of apis (asian/pacific islanders) is prospected to go down from 45% to the high or low 30s, with barely any change for african americans, native americans, or hispanics.

another portion of the uc admissions rule is to force the ag requirements to be taken before senior year, which is very disadvantageous to students in poorer, “worse” school districts where enough courses might not even be offered to fulfill this requirement.

1) What were the “barriers deemed unecessary” that they got rid of? I’m wondering if these changes are going to make Berkeley “more competitive” or less…?

2) It would suck if you can only take the a-g requirements before 12th grade; for example, for me, the way my high school was set up, I could only take one of my art units during senior year.

It seems strange that this would lead to an increase in white students at the expense of Asian students. I’ve always assumed Asian and white students had more similarities stats wise than other racial groups, so it’s kind of hard to imagine a policy affecting Asians negatively but benefiting whites.

I have a question about AP classes. Today my AP Span teacher said that she heard that UCs require you to have taken at least 3 AP classes and that prospective HSs have to offer at least 1 AP. Where is she getting this from because I’ve read the UC page a thousand times and never came across this nonsensical requirement (even though it doesn’t affect me)?

I think your AP Spanish teacher is the one who should have that membername.

@anothergalaxy - UCs look at school profile and expect you to take challenging classes. So if your school offers 30 APs and is in one of the high performing districts, and you have taken 1-2 AP while your peers have taken 8-10, that will weigh in for the more selective UCs.
