No, they're not out for us transfers yet (close enough), but I figured I'd get this show on the road. You know the drill: Come the 17th, Post stats, accepted/denied, etc etc.

On another note: I've been watching the UCSC freshman decisions thread and was pretty astounded at some of the decisions I saw! I saw some freshman with stellar stats get rejected, perhaps because of their major of choice? I don't know. Maybe the admissions counselors were feeling moody or something.

^^like what? can you post their stats of those who got rejected?

One rejected applicant had a GPA of 3.5 and sat score of 2200

I haven’t heard a peep from those guys, except for a request to fill out a supplemental app (Baskin SOE), a FAFSA reminder, and most recently, some spring college fair thing (looks like it’s one of those online ones meh).

@uchappy: For example, I just went on there and saw a freshman with a 34 ACT and 3.8 unweighted UC GPA get waitlisted (They did not list their major though). Another example is a 2150 SAT combined with a 3.8 UC GPA, again, no major listed. If you want more examples, go check out the thread. Its crazy! Maybe its because they switched to a holistic approach in selecting their 2012 freshman class?

@asphyxiac: Thats strange. I’ve gotten those notifications too, but I’ve heard from UCSC WAY more than any other UC. Heck, I got my first email from UCSB the other day and basically none from UCI, UCM and UCR yet…

All of the freshman I know who applied to UCSC, got in… soooo it might just be odd circumstances?

Or trolls…

@ThePavin: The majority of decisions were definitely acceptances, I was just shocked at the rejects that I saw, that’s all. Could be odd circumstances, competition of major, etc., unlikely a ■■■■■ though! They seemed pretty sincere about their decision. Also, I’m pretty good at spotting a trolls thanks to my boyfriend who likes to ■■■■■ me for fun… :P

im excited that there’s a UCSC admittance thread alreeady!!(: tomorrow needs to go by fast

is anyone else staying up till 3:00am? my last name starts with M so thats when I should get the decision.

^I’d reckon that all the decisions are going to be released at midnight, despite last names. That’s what has happened historically and with the freshman last night! I dunno if I’ll be able to make it up that late considering I’ve got an 8am calc class tomorrow…

@kingdoms

You have an 8am calc class on a Saturday!? That sucks. I’m sorry :(

@kingdoms ^ fuuuu…morning classes urgh… idk how i’ll do it if all classes for UC’s will be in the morning… i haven’t had a morning class since summer of last year… =3

I’m incredibly nervous. While I have a pretty good GPA (3.4), good ECs, and two awesome personal statements, I also am taking 25 credits this semester. I took 20 last semester, but I read somewhere that they consider amount of credits being taken when considering for acceptance. I explained in the additional comments section that I got a 4.0 last semester while taking 20 credits and working 20 hours a week and that I won’t be working at all this semester, but I’m still really anxious. Their response was this:

Dear Jordan,

Course loads are looked at against a students history of course loads and ability to handle many units in a term. Given that you took 20 units and achieved a 4.0 would be considered in the evaluation, but we would also be looking at previous terms and number of units and grades earned.

Sincerely,
UCSC Office of Admissions

The problem with this is that I only took 11 units in the prior spring semester and 9 units for the summer. I have 3 credits from two years ago that I’ll be transferring as well. How worried should I be? About 5 of the credits are throwaway (yoga, swimming, etc.) and only one class is for my major.

I should probably mention that I did get accepted to UCR.

@isteal

I’m in a similar boat as yourself, although I’m taking ~18 units. I’m actually enrolled in 25ish because I have late start classes but I can always drop those if I need to. You have a much better chance than I do because the previous semesters I barely took full loads or took classes that were not transferable (thanks to my counselors!!!). Oh, and 15 units of the 60 I need to transfer are AP credits.

@asphyxiac: No no! I meant, I have 8am calc on Friday morning. What I meant was that its going to be difficult to stay up for the decision tonight because I got up so early today.

@Cosmic: I ENVY YOU. All I ever get are 8am’s, and not by choice!

@Isteal: Well, tonight is the big night! I’m going to say that you’re probably still going to get accepted, especially if you’re already in at UCR.

Just about 12 more hours…Can’t wait for decisions! Hope they’re positive for everybody. :)

bam 100% on my calc 2 test.

Congrats

Sent from my SPH-D700 using CC

@jnugyen- JEALOUS. What are you guys covering? I’ve got a test coming up on Weds that will be over trig substitution and 1st/2nd order differential equations…

@softballkc- Hey! I’m glad you came on over to join… :)

@kingdoms

Oh, I totally misunderstood you about the calc class, lol. Take a nap, girl!

oh it on chapter 8 and 9. Which is umm length of arc, surfrace area, hyper something with rotation, linear and differential equation stuff. like after spring break we have series and sequence.
