New 3.0 to 3.3 (GPA) Parents Thread

Does the steaming also work on those new adhesive strip envelopes? :D

^Or email?

EMAIL… someone is an expert at “Mark As Unread”… it might be me…

D is waiting news on an honors-type program she applied for at her ED school. She was so determined that I not know if she got accepted ED before she did that she changed her online password to the college’s website so I couldn’t check her admission status! But since then she told me the pw, so I could do the room deposit and sign up for spring orientation while I was at it. Hopefully she forgets that I have the pw because the program results we are waiting for come out on 1/28…

I will have to brush up on the steaming the envelope over the tea kettle, opening it, reading it & then sealing back up with a glue stick. Then very innocently putting it on the recepient’s messed up bed, that is never made! Then one must practice an emotionless face when child gets home from school and you say “There’s an envelope from College X on your bed.”

This is histerical! Glad to hear I am not the only 'overzelous" Mom around. Could not think of a better word to describe the anxiety we feel for our kids.

lafalum: attended a local info session last week for your D’s school; very impressed; sooo down to earth…now we just have to visit…I’ll keep in touch…

“Overzealous” - For example, I am searching all of the threads to make sure that Marist did not send out their decisions yesterday. Because I am at work and do not want my son to recieve “bad news” while he is home alone. Marist is one of his top choices and I would want to be with him when (if) he receives the denial.

Mary Ann did he end up applying to Stonehill and Endicott as well??

Yeah, this waiting is killing me. Expecting one envelope soon - website said ‘a decision has been made, results will be in mail within a week’ Almost a week now, I’m getting disgruntled at this point going to the mailbox and not finding anything. This is the school that had a not very well run open house, and had sent S the fat envelope with a brochure a couple of weeks ago (I think they’re messing with me!)

Expecting one in Feb, the last 2 March/April. Kind of feel S should have applied to more schools, but he has stuck to places his friends are applying pretty much.

I am kind of surprised we haven’t heard anything more from the two acceptances he’s had. One emailed about an accepted students day, but I don’t want to make the trip (farthest away school) because unless he gets a generous aid package, he can’t go.

And yes, ‘mark as unread’ is a given, and he gave me permission to open any envelope if he isn’t around (though his top 2 choices are the last ones we’ll get, I’ll leave those for him)

Yes, he applied to Stonehill and Endicott. Have not heard anything yet!

We got a few of these and I don’t want to make the trip either. Unless we know it is affordable, I see it as a big waste of everything in terms of time, money, etc. These schools are just not around the corner.

Rodney, a visit will seal the deal. D saw the fountains lit up at night and that was it, ha ha.

MaryAnn, a couple of D’s friends are going to Stonehill next year (EA/ED), they are really nice kids. Stonehill is a great school, I hope you get good news from them.

D received an invitation to Linfield’s Competitive Scholarship Day yesterday. They weren’t kidding when they said those would be sent out no later than Jan. 15! Linfield has already been generous with the merit aid–their website makes it sound like it could be another $10K or so. They are offering overnights and classroom visits at the same time, so this may help significantly with the decision-making process.

Lafalum84 - I’ll keep you posted.

Oh digdig I adored Linfield! It was my favorite all along but I wasn’t the one going to school so had to go with my D’s choice where she is very happy. She went to the competitive scholarship day. I tried her to take one of the less common tests but she took Bio and didn’t win. Even without it, their FA package was the best by far…hmmm maybe that was why I loved it so much or maybe because it is in Oregon wine country but really it was that I felt certain my shyish D would be accepted welcomed and embraced there. Good luck to your D!

I steamed an envelope about a month ago! It was from one of DD’s top choices and it was thinnnnn. The darn thing said they’d gotten all her stuff and would be making a decision soon… arghhh.

Oh thank you, historymom. Linfield is the place that my also-shyish daughter felt very comfortable with from the first contact. I do wonder about the sports culture, as that is why Gonzaga got chopped from her list. The scholarship day will give her more of an extended visit and I’m hopeful we’ll both have a clear picture of what four years in McMinnville means. Like you, I could do it easily. :-)

If I was supposed to hear about a school by January 15 and never heard back, and since I applied ea, should I email them. I begining to feel like this isn’t a good sign.

PLM14,
give it a day or two–maybe the school mailed its stuff on Jan. 15.

Also, check your spam filter–for some reason, that’s always where I find stuff I was expecting.

By Tuesday, definitely email the school–after all, it already is what it already is

Sending good thoughts your way!.

fingers crossed for you PLM!

Mary Ann when do you expect to hear from Endiccott and Stonehill…This month or not until March/April? Best of luck to your S

Theres some schools that aren’t mentioned on here that can be in your range. curry college, new england college, and i believe I may be wrong thou Lawrence university.

If your looking for a big school in the west. My scores/ stats defitnaley didn’t match me but I got in so apply to places even if you don’t think you can get in. Good Luck to all.
