New ACT Test Date

I haven’t seen a discussion on this in either this or the ACT Subforum… but in looking up future date information for a client, I discovered the the ACT has added a July 14, 2018 test date to their future dates list.

My thoughts-- 1. The ACT had to add a “summer” date to keep up with SAT’s new August test.

2. This date will be great for students who are overwhelmed with AP/IB Classes, extracurricular commitments, and other life activities during the school year. It will allow them to focus their studying on just the test.

3. Here in TN the school year is over before Memorial Day, but I know in the Northeast the school calendar traditionally runs Labor Day until early June. This July date avoids students having to take the ACT after a week of final exams.
4. As a test prep tutor, this will shorten a “dead zone” of tutoring that always happens between the June tests and July 4th, which will help me pay the bills over the Summer.
Moderators… If I have overlooked this and this topic has already been discussed, please pardon my redundancy!

Hurrah! I only wish it was happening this year. Thanks!

This is really wonderful. I bet these summer dates will be really popular.

Need advice : I am attempting ACT in june this year for the first time. If I repeat in September, how is that perceived by colleges that I am doing testing at the last moment while applications are already open for colleges.

Taking the test in June and September is a very normal thing to do, especially if you are ending junior year and starting senior year. In fact, I suggest to ALL of my students that they take the ACT in Sept. and Oct. of 12th grade year because it provides 2 more chances to get a new high score. 100 percent of students who do NOT take the test as seniors do NOT see their scores improve. I have personally worked with enough students over the years to say that the fall tests have been worth millions of scholarship dollars with increased scores. Good luck!

My wife and I have thought for YEARS that Summer tests were a great idea waiting to be implemented.

ACT may have added test dates, but it is up to the testing centers to choose which dates they will offer. For example, no schools in my D 's district (@ 17 high schools) are offering the June ACT so she has to go over to the next county. If you live in a larger district you may have better luck. Since teachers are out for the summer, it may be hard to find proctors.

Proctors also come from test prep companies and the like. Locations might be more limited, but this development is long overdue.

I totally agree.

@ready2launch , I’m surprised that no schools out of 17 offer the June test in your district. When does your school year end? Around here the schools are all done by Memorial Day, but there are still plenty of choices for a June test date. It will be interesting to see how many sites are open for the July 2018 test, but I think that by then, most teachers are already done with vacations, and many are already spending extra classroom time preparing for the upcoming year. For them, an extra check would be very handy!

Oy. I wish that were being offered this year.

An August test date wouldn’t go amiss, either.

The SAT got the “dibs” on August, so the ACT, of course, had to pick July instead!

Is August right before junior year too early to take the SAT?
