This is the new format and curriculum, Trevor packer, head of AP put it on his twitter feed.

They are changing the format for the 2013 exam.

MC section-30%- 36 questions, with 2-6 questions sets with 4 answer choices
DBQ-25%- 60 minutes
Long essay question-20%- 30 minutes
Short Answer question- 25%- 50 minutes

I do not agree with this change at all. They changed the format for the World History exam and the number of 4's and 5's went down. The 2-6 question sets also makes the exam seem like an SAT test :/ I think the format was fine.

They want to stuff 400 years of history into only 36 multiple choice?! Also, what’s up with this “short answer” thing? People will just BS everything. This whole thing sounds stupid.

I’m good at MC and the topic areas that they’re changing to and more thinking over memorization is a plus to me. It’s nice to have broader themes like World History, but overall, I’d probably lose points to the larger amount of essays.

On the surface it sounds exponentially more tedious, and dumb, but when I think about it, I realize the essays were MUCH easier than the multiple choice for me… So who knows, maybe it’ll be okay.
