New Broadway Musical

My d and I just caught a preview for a new B'way play. "High Fidelity" The Musical on Broadway.http://www.topfivebreakups.com/tickets/. The young cast is amazing. I think once it opens you won't be able to get tickets. One of the cast Christian Anderson, we saw in Avenue Q in N.Y. and in the Full Monty in L.A.(amazing talent. I wonder what school he went to? There are also rush tickets $26.00 at each show. My D want to see it again when we are in N.Y. when we are in town for the Unifieds. She can't wait for the C.D.

Just saw an ad for this in the NYT, too. It's apparently a new musical based on Nick Hornsby's novel of the same name. He also penned "About a Boy," with which some of you may be familiar. It was turned into a movie.

Locomom, I hope you're right about the demand for tickets for this show! We have two family friends who are in it and I'm looking forward to seeing it. Christian is an amazingly talented man, although I'm not sure I'd refer to him as "young", as far as Broadway casts go. He didn't attend college. :) One of his first jobs was in the first national tour of Rent almost ten years ago now (after several years of performing with bands), and is where he met his wife who was also in the tour. He's had a fairly successful career onstage since then. Actually, four of the HF actors are Rent alumni including Will Chase who plays the lead role, Christian, Matt Caplan, and Justin Brill. HF is one of my favorite books so it will be interesting to see how they've adapted it to the stage. My D has seen it twice already and tells me that I'll like it!

Changing the subject - has anyone seen Mary Poppins yet, and do you have a report?

I saw it when we were in London.....I think I am too old for it.

Alwaysamom, To me Christian Anderson is a young man. I'm sorry in the 11 times my d and I saw Rent we missed him. Who is his wife?

Ericsmom-seeing it next Fri along with Chorus Line

Locomom, oh, I agree absolutely that Christian is young to me, just not as young as most Broadway actors! :) His wife is Cheri Smith and she was a swing in Rent. Just a bit of Rent trivia, Christian is one of the very few actors to have ever played both Mark AND Roger fulltime. He's a very talented actor.

AudiB4, haven't seen Mary Poppins but I did see A Chorus Line a few weeks ago and it is wonderful! Jason Tam, the boy who plays the role of Paul, gives a performance that alone is worth the price of admission.

AudiB4 - you have a big day coming up on Friday! Please give an update afterwards.

We're getting to see both of those plus a couple of last year Tony award winners during the holidays! Yeah!!!

Alwaysamom how do you know all this stuff? A Rent head maybe?

I really want to see Spring Awakening, Grey Gardens, and Legally Blonde!!!

can't wait. Also have tickets for Les Mis and Company in Dec.

Locomom, we've had family friends and a couple of relatives involved with the show over the years and have seen it dozens and dozens of times!

All -

Grey Gardens is AMAZING!! I saw it with my D when I was in town for NYU Parent's weekend. Run - do not walk - to see these two women - Christine Ebersole and Mary Louise Wilson. They are wonderful.

We have High Fedelity (second time) and Grey Gardens tics for Dec. in N.Y. can't wait.

I have Spring Awakening tickets for December (the ones onstage). I can't wait! And I have A Chorus Line and Color Purple too.

Yes, Spring Awakening looks like it is going to be intense!! I can't wait for the cast recording.

There's a new show that just went up! It's called Spring Awakening, and the music that I've heard is amazing!!!

I am going to see Spring Awakening tomorrow and saw High Fidelity this past Sunday. High Fidelity was fine...not incredible. The talent in the show was great, but the show itself is just..eh. But it was free, so I can't complain. I'll update on Spring Awakening later...

Son went to Stagedoor with one of the cast members in Spring Awakening. He was an amazing talent. Heard the show was great-it has been off broadway for awhile.
Saw Mary Poppins Thanksgiving Weekend. It is terrific-lots of special effects and the chimney sweep number is worth the admission price-Gavin Lee taps upside down 40 feet in the air while singing. He is absolutely wonderful! Show is a little "dark and sombre"-could be a little scary for young kids (2 numbers). Several in the audience were either asleep or crying.
Also saw A Chorus Line-I loved it because I love the music. some in my party weren't wowed by it. some of the cast was very talented, some were not that impressive.

chris, it seems that most people are in agreement with you about High Fidelity. Great talents but mediocre show. It's unfortunate. That and Spring Awakening are having very real problems selling tickets. Attendance needs to pick up FAST or both could be closed by year end.

Audi, Spring Awakening is another show with tremendous talent, including wonderful stars Stephen Spinella and Lea Michele, but it's not selling well. I fear that this is yet another example of a show which was successful off-Broadway (it ran at Atlantic this past summer after years of being workshopped) and should really not have been moved to a Broadway theatre. The audiences and expectations are very different and it's a rare show that can survive and become a hit on Broadway.
