New York Musical Theatre Festival

For those of you whose children will be at school in the city, or close by, they will definitely want to catch some of the shows at the NY Musical Theatre Festival which runs from 9/12-10/2. I've been asked by a couple of friends to mention this to interested parties who may not be aware of it, so thought I'd post here. This will be the second year for the festival, and last year's was a tremendous success.

With over 140 events, Broadway stars, inexpensive ticket prices, it's a bonanza of goodness for MT lovers. One show, in particular, I'd like to recommend because two dear people who are family friends will be performing together in it, Amy Spanger and Anthony Rapp. Your kids will know who they are. ;) Amy was in Rent, tick tick boom, Kiss Me Kate and, for you Six Feet Under fans, she's married to Michael C. Hall (David). Anthony was in Rent, YAGMCB, Hedwig, Little Shop, many many other plays and a long list of films which will soon include the film version of Rent (to be released in November). The show is called Feeling Electric and for $15, you can't go wrong.

There is lots to choose from, something for everyone, trust me!

Might I suggest Two Gents w/ an amazing cast including Rosario Dawson (Rent movie) and Norm Lewis. It's getting some good reviews, and the set looks really neat. I wish I could be there to check it out!

If you love Norm Lewis, might I also suggest seeing Norm in concert with:
Michael Arden (Bare, Big River) Andrea Burns (Songs for a New World) Todd Bunnaponna - spelling? - (Spelling Bee) and several others. They are doing a concert called "Music of Stephen Weiner, Songs of Love and Aggravation," on Wed. evening, Sept. 21 at 59 E. 59th. It is being sponsored by the Prospect Theatre. You can look them up either online or in phonebook.
