NEW! College Prep Scholarship - 2010

I didn’t mention my D also got nominated for college visits. She was very fortunate, but she has had a really hard life, so it’s about time something goes right for her…

To anyone who’s feeling bad right now for not getting a prize, I hope you’ll keep shooting for the stars. The higher you aim, the higher you’ll end up. I know I speak for everyone on this forum when I say you truly deserve the best in life, and by applying for programs like QB you are actively making your own success happen. Just think how far ahead you are already in the college apps process. You can take all your QB essays, refine and improve on them. Also, don’t forget early action to increase your chances of being accepted to the college of your choice. I’m sending good thoughts your way : ).

so was there a separate form you had to fill out to receive the counseling?

^ I’m curious about that too. Did I overlook that during the application process?

Checked my inbox during school today and was so stoked to find out I got invited to the Stanford Conference. Also nominated for college visits. I’m hoping to be able to get a travel grant after RSVPing today. :]

Stanford conference and free college visits. I might see some of you there if i get the travel grant. :)

^ how do you already know you got free college visits?

from the email:
“We have also nominated you to be considered for an all-expense-paid campus visit to one or more of our partner colleges…”

meaning you’re nominated
you may or may not get it…

Everyone who got anything at all–invitation to a conference, nomination for visits, telementoring, one-on-one guidance through the college apps process, summer courses, anything at all–is considered a QB Prep Scholarship recipient. Jewish candidates may have received an additional recognition known as “Fein Fellows.”

Waitlisted to the conference at Yale and nominated for visits…

Did anyone get notified about summer schools???

So, getting nominated for telementoring and college visits qualifies me as a QB Prep Scholarship recipient? Can I put on my resume that I am a QB Prep Scholarship recipient even though I only got nominated (well, I don’t know if I get free visits and telementoring yet).

Really didn’t think I’d get anything but I got a Stanford conference invite (and nomination for visits, but its just a nomination so we’ll see), but I’m not really sure I want to go.

Well, scratch that, I know I want to go. Seeing as I’m on the East coast, though, it’ll be expensive. Airfare and hotel stay for myself will be quite a lot to afford especially for a single-day conference thing.

What exactly could this conference tell/do for me that I can’t get from searching the internet or this very website?

Of course, I don’t mean to be ungrateful. I never thought I’d get any award and this is awesome, I’m just having trouble weighing the cost-benefit.

And I’m hesitant to apply for travel aid as it says several times that its not meant to cover the whole cost of travel and stay, and that you should only request the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM that is needed. It’s one of the most intimidating financial aid request forms I’ve seen and I wonder if it would be better to simply not go. Plus that require the accompaniment of a parent which would greatly increase my expense (by about 400$) which I can’t help but feel defeats the purpose of my applying for aid.

I can appreciate the sentiment at the least.

That is my understanding, Snowing, but if you write to questions@questbridge.org you could confirm it with them and then share what you find out with all of us here…

Moondragonx: I really think it would be a good idea to put in an appearance at Stanford so you could meet and talk to the college reps there. It’s good to get known. Today my D got a lovely handwritten postcard from an admissions person at a small women’s college she’s interested in telling her how nice it was to have chatted with her at a couple of different conferences we attended in San Francisco.

Thanks Marama. I think I’ll write to them once I get confirmation that I will be part of the telementoring/college visits. I got waitlisted for the conference and I don’t know if I’ll be able to pay for it if I do get off the waitlist. But we’ll see. As Marama stated before, getting anything at all is excellent  I got waitlisted for the conference, but got nominated for both college visits and telementoring!! I hope I get admitted to the telementoring part because it sounds so amazing!!

I got an invitation to the conference at Yale and nominated for college visits. =) I hope I get picked for a college visit. It would be an amazing opportunity!

Good luck to all who were nominated for college visit and congrats to the rest. To those who didn’t recieve anything, definitely try the national match scholarship =D. Just applying for a college prep scholarship indicates that you are a great candidate and you never know. =)

I was thinking the same thing with the conference… I cant really go if the money isnt there. Im going to wait on TASP decisions before i decide here.

You dont automatically get accepted for the college visit you get nominated. Got into the Yale conference!!! wooooo  does anyone know the type of computer you get for the fein fellow award?

By the way, no one knows of the Quest for Excellence award?
I e-mailed them asking if you get a yes/no or nothing if you don’t get it.

My D also wants to know the kind of computer, but apparently you’ll have to sit tight until the Fein Foundation contacts you with further information.

Im also curious about the Quest for Excellence Award because I haven’t heard anyne got it… i only heard tht they got the Feins Fellow…

and only 10 people are given the smmer program awards…

^^^thatguy, let me know what the questbridge staff says when they respond please. I’m curious, too.
