The Bachelor of Arts in Equine Studies at my university has received an update for the 2019-2020 academic year. Training has been added as a concentration, joining alongside Equine Assisted Activities, previously known as Equitation and Training, Equine Management, and Equine Science. The Bachelor of Arts in Equine Science also became a new program for students offering mostly biology and chemistry classes along with the more scientific equine classes in order to give the pre-veterinary medicine students a more linear degree path through the equine department. My concentration is currently Equitation and Training under the 2018-2019 major requirements since my freshman year started then. Despite the concentration’s name, it actually has more to do with therapy than it does equitation, and it has no training in the curriculum other than the required training class from the Equine Studies core. That is why the name was changed in order to match it better with the courses in the concentration area. I would like to ask if it would be more beneficial for me to complete the new Training concentration or potentially even Equine Management. I have been looking mainly at groom positions at horse farms since I don’t have much experience at all in the horse industry outside a local therapeutic horseback riding program. The ultimate goal would be to enter management. I am looking for an equine career in which I can work directly with the animals. Please let me know your suggestions.
