My former counselor is retiring in a few weeks, but she has already been moved to a different section of the alphabet so she isn't my counselor now anyway. I spent quite a bit of time last year getting to know her and introducing myself. She's written me recommendations for summer programs, we've had conferences with my parents, and so on.
I met the new counselor in early August, and my mother had communicated with him a bit in the summer (she also knows his wife, the superintendent of our district). I've talked to him a good amount, but I just can't get anyone to know me as well in a month as someone has come to know me over a year. He's also relatively new to the whole thing, whereas my former counselor has been doing this for decades. When I see him, he often has to ask my former counselor a question to double check things.
I know schools usually want any additional recommendations to come from people who know you outside of school, but I feel like she could write me a much better and more personal letter from the counselor's perspective.
So would it be beneficial or redundant?
