New dorms

What are a freshman’s chances of getting a room in one of the new dorms?

When you request your dorm, I heard you’re given three preferences. Are these three preferences simply ranking Segundo, Tercero, and Cuarto in order? Or can you request specific buildings within these areas?

Thanks!

You can only rank the three living areas: Tercero, Cuarto, or Segundo. So to answer your questions, you cannot request specific buildings within a particular area.

If the construction goes according to schedule, the Tercero letter buildings (the oldest ones in Tercero) will be gone next year. This would make Tercero the likeliest to get a NEW dorm in.

However, they did a lot of construction and refurbishing in Segundo this year.

So if your sole concern is whether your room is new or not, Segundo or Tercero would be your pick. There are a lot of other factors to consider though, like suite-style living in Quarto, program living, coed or single-sex, etc…

what shoyon said, but also consider location. Tercero is pretty central within the campus, Segundo is like in the far northwest corner, and Cuarto is west of Segundo, off campus.

Straight from someone high up in the Office of Student Housing: “You’re statistically most likely to be put in Segundo next year.”

He also mentioned that a lot of the programs would probably be moving to segundo for the same reason.

My source will remain anonymous…

After we get accepted and then they send the forms or whatever they send for you to fill out housing info is it first come first serve? like if you decide your dorm rankings day of and send it in do u have a better chance of getting into, lets say Tercero, rather than someone who waits a month? Or do they wait till they have them all and then start putting people into dorms?

i’m pretty sure they wait til the housing deposit deadline has passed before making assignments (at least i think that’s what they did last year). that’s because not everybody has the money to make the deposit immediately, and it would be unfair to start doling out preferences to kids whose parents paid immediately as opposed to those who had to wait a little longer (i.e., closer to the deadline) before sending the $$ in.

good luck all you prospective aggies!!!

oh right! i totally forgot about that haha, stupid of me since i will most likely not have the money to pay right away (assuming i get in crosses fingers) either. So, yea, based on that i hope they wait
