UC Davis dorms, the order of preferences

I really don’t want to get Cuarto. I know that Segundo is the most difficult to get into. I wouldn’t mind living in either Segundo or Tercero. Would I have a better chance NOT getting Cuarto if I listed my preferences as Segundo, Tercero, then Cuarto. Or does the order not matter. Personally I think I would rather live in Tercero. My feeling is that If I list Tercero as my first choice and don’t get in, then the chances of me getting Segundo would be very slim. Does the order in which I list my preferences matter? I just hear that Cuarto is the worst of the three dorms.

aye yo dont even trip about what fools say bout cuarto, i got buds livin there and they just chillin, only thing bad is that cuarto is a farther away from da campus so its gonna be a little trippy, thats all. just go with the order you like. all the dorms are good

stay fresh

Segundo will be even harder to get into; I heard they’re closing down the high rises for reconstruction or renovation or something of that sort. They will be opening up the new Tercero buildings next fall though.

I know people who listed Cuarto as their last choice and still ended up with it. It’s really not too bad though, and if you still don’t want to live there, you can request a room transfer.

thanks you two. does anybody else have more input on this? :D

I think they put the order of preference for a reason, so if you put your top 3 choices, you’ll most likely get into those. I think : )

However, I remember I didn’t put Cuarto down at all, and I got placed there. At first I was pretty bummed, but then I realized that Cuarto is the best place to live. I think I’ve mentioned this before somewhere, but pools, hot tubs, private bathrooms, and private lounges all make Cuarto awesome. Don’t think that the extra one minute on your bike will make a difference. The lounge gives you a place to go if your roomy is sleeping in the bedroom without having to leave your room. It’s the closest to Safeway. Huge whiteboards. You don’t have to cram everyone into your bedroom if you want to hang out/have a party.

Well okay you get the idea.

^POLY! Can you please elaborate on the private bathroom and lounges? So in Cuartro you get a bathroom ONLY for you and your dormmate? And the same goes for the lounge? Does the lounge have the whiteboards? etc. If you could elaborate for me that would be super great, because in that case Cuarto will be a top choice.

You’ll have more than one suitemate.

When I visited my friend while she was still at Cuarto, there was a pretty big whiteboard that you see once you enter the suite where everyone left messages for each other.

Do you know how many? And will it be possible to dorm with juniors and transfers if you have 2 or 3 dormmates?

Go ahead and check the floor plans. [Cuarto Area Floorplans](http://www.confhsg.ucdavis.edu/Maps/Cuarto-floor.HTM)

I had a 4 person suite, and we all shared the same bathroom. I think they add another bathroom for the 5+ person suites, though I don’t recall.
In my case, there were two bedrooms, and they both connected out to a lounge, which is around the size of another bedroom, and it had two couches, and two tables. Once again, I think the bigger suites with more people have a larger lounge. The suites go up to 9 people in Thoreau.

There’s a small whiteboard on the outside of your suite door, and inside your suite, in the lounge, there’s a huge whiteboard. We wrote down people’s phone numbers on anyone who entered the first week. Made it easier to get to know each other. Otherwise we drew pictures all the time or played games like pictionary.

i want to try to avoid cuarto. would i have a better chance having my preferences listed as segundo, tercero, cuarto than i would with tercero, segundo, cuarto?

I think i wanna live in Tercero South

I wanna live in Tercero or Cuarto.

I actually think that Cuarto sounds like one of the best, so that’s my number 1 choice

^ Tati, are you Punjabi?

No I’m not Punjabi.

well im trying to avoid cuarto. so what do you all think is the best order of preferences so i WONT end up in cuarto? can someone please answer my question? :/

^ I don’t know from experience but you said that if you don’t get tercero then you feel like you will have a slim chance of getting into segundo if it’s second. Just off of that it seems like you should go segundo, tercero, cuatro. Again, I don’t know for sure but this makes sense to me.

Segundo, Tercero, Cuarto

wherever we can party and get wasted. 4/20 am i right

If partying and getting wasted are a priority, you might want to think of living in an apartment. The dorms have enforced quiet hours at night, and strict rules prohibiting alcohol and illegal substances that can get you kicked out of housing and/or school. Just food for thought. The dorms are more for good, clean fun, and in some cases, a place to recover from all the partying you’ve done at frat houses. Just some food for thought. :)
