New Generation Scholarship

I just received a letter in the mail saying I could be a candidate for this scholarship to Scripps College. I suppose my stats fit the bill, or they wouldn't contact me about it (1520 SAT, 4.67 GPA, etc.), but I don't know how much weight to put on this. I'm also applying for the Wells scholarship to IU and the NROTC Scholarship if nothing else works out. I hope for financial aid packages from the other schools I'd much rather go to, but my parents won't let me turn down a full tuition/room&board/research stipend offer.

Does anyone know anything about this? How great an opportunity is it?

One other thing: they say they'll pay for round trip airfare home, but I live in SoCal. Would they convert the $ to a book allowance?

I just got a letter about the scholarship too. It seems like it is a good opportunity since the New Generation Scholarship isn't even posted on their website - I am definetly going to look into it. There is an email address that you can contact to ask the book allowance question.

Have either of you found out more about this? I got the letter too, and am stumped trying to find more info. East coast to west coast phone calls aren't working.

I went to Scripps the other weekend and asked about it. Apparently, we apply for the JE Scripps Scholarship with the November 1 deadline. One or two NG scholars are chosen from the JES scholar pool. The lady I spoke to was frustratingly brief, but maybe they don't want thousands of girls ripping each other apart over the money :)

tkm256, I think you have hit it on the head. The "new Generation Scholarship" appears to be one or sometimes two picked from the JES group. It appears that last year a girl who ultimately rejected it in favor of Harvard (and a good financial package). You find nothing about it on the website and "mum's the word" from admissions and FA, too. D received a letter, also.
