New HS student in USA want to apply to Northwestern University.

Hello!
I moved in May from Poland to USA and now I’m legal pernament resident. In next week I’m going to enroll to local high school and I don’t know, wht I should do. I’m '98, so I should go to Seniors, but I really, really what to go to good college. I live quite near Northwestern University and I’ll say it one more time I really, really want to go to good college like NU. I enjoyed their site, they have all courses, whitch I want to attend (btw. I want to study Computer Science or Computer Engineering, becouse I’m keen on that). The problem is in fact, that I don’t know what to do- should I go to Seniors and try to take SAT, but I think, that I’ll have not enough time to prepare good or try to go to Juniors and pass SAT better? I’ve read, that when I’ll attend only one year, I will not have opportuinity to apply for FAFSA, I don’t know it’s really true, maybe somebody of you know someting about it…

In Poland I attended to normal Polish schools. I was very good student, since my first grade I’ve always had honorable certificates with my grades for the best students in school and year. For years I’ve attended extra English, Math and German courses every week. I wanted to practise to prestigous competition in Computer Science (something like state competition in US) but my moving was unexpected. I won some competitions, but it were school or city competitions. I have a bit volounteer work on my account. I can play guitar a bit and my father could help me to lern, but now I can’t practise becouse I don’t have guitar (my school don’t have guitar class, what a shame…). In Poland to get to top universities you only need good academics, so I was concentrated on it. Polish realites about education are a bit different than in the USA… I’m working now on my own website and I want to show my skills in web design and a bit of programming. I’m crazy about IT, I read a lot of IT publications etc. and I want to do something conected with it in the future. This summer I spend on learning Math and other courses like Physics etc. in English, becouse I’ve took most of it in Poland but in Polish.

Have I any chances to get to NU? I believe, that I good slot to NU community, but I know, that to be in this 13% accepted, it’ll be hard. :frowning:

No way of saying whether or not you have a shot at NU without ACT/SAT scores or a GPA. The high school you’re enrolling at probably has a policy for what grade you should be in based on the classes you took before moving to the US and your preparedness for junior/senior level courses.

I have to try all ways. If NU be too hard to get, I’ll try something diffrent. My HS is big (4k students), maybe they had simillar person like me and they’ll help me, what to do with my grades. I start my school year on 24th of August, keep fingers crossed!

If you want to apply to NU, I’ll echo what jb2019 said: you need to take the SAT or ACT as soon as possible. Until then, there’s no point in applying, because that’s one of the basic requirements for US colleges.
