I just saw a swimmer had committed to Denison for 2020 today. There have probably been other D3 commits for 2020 but it made me wonder if all the D3 colleges, including NESCACs, are doing prereads and offering OVs earlier than prior years due to the new contact date of September 1st for Juniors and that Juniors can take OVs?
I have a S19 who went through the recruiting process last year so I am familiar with the old timeline. But I have a D22 who also wants to swim, so I am wondering, how much, if any, has the timeline moved forward for D3s? And has the timeline changed for Ivies? Or is the change mostly occurring in D1 and D2 colleges?
I know D22 has plenty of time but I like to be prepared?
Thanks for any advice!
Maybe that swimmer didn’t get a pre-read or doesn’t need FA? Athletes commit to schools all the time and then it doesn’t work out with admissions or FA.
My D21 started getting emails from all divisions starting on June 15. She also got a personal response to a recruiting questionnaire from a D3 coach. It was just a “thanks, but get back in touch after you have your junior year grades”.
I think the September date is just for OV’s, so email contact is okay. I don’t think anyone should place much stock in early D3 commits.
My rising senior swimmer (D20) just submitted her pre- read materials to the D3 (and mid major D1) schools. Some D3s (including one NESCAC) told us that they will send the pre- read materials to admissions as soon as they can- meaning it’s not open yet for pre- reads as of now at this very fast NESCAC. No D3s has offered OVs early to us - the dates that we were given are all Sep or Oct. The only school that we talked to that had OV in spring were D1s.
Ironically my D20 is friends with the girl mentioned by the OP! All of the D3 schools that my daughter is talking with will be in the fall.
@MAandMEmom - It’s a small world! Thanks for letting me know that your D20’s OVs are in the fall. Best of luck to her!
@shishamo - Thanks for your input on the Fall timing of D3 OVs. It sounds like D3 hasn’t changed their timeline, just D1 and D2. Good luck to your D20!
@Acersaccharum - good to hear that your D21 received emails after June 15 and that one school wasn’t going to do anything until after Junior grades. I hope she has a great year!
We just had a fall break from school and toured/met coaches at a couple of D3s and D1s. One D3 coach (NESCAC) did indicate that it may become necessary for them to move up their recruiting timeline as D1 has moved theirs up. I can see the problem because my D21 is interested in both Divisions and I am having hard time wrapping my head around how to coordinate both. Her favorite D1 will start OVs in January with an aim to fill the team by June ! This is before her favorite D3 will even ask for a pre read. Oh my, we’re in for a bumpy ride!
