Yeah my PSAT brought down my chances. 75 on math but upper 50’s for CR and writing. I’m doing a program at Berkeley and an internship in Dubai. I might apply for an internship at Princeton but idk yet.

2340 sat and 215 psat which Is pretty decent I guess.

I’m looking into internships now, but apparently I’m a bit late.

2400 sat and 225 psat… Still feeling a little salty

190 on PSAT and 2070 on SAT. I don’t like the SAT so I’m taking the ACT instead.

I think my standardized testing got me 213 PSAT

I got into GSET with a 237 PSAT, 11 APs up until Junior year, somewhat informal but lengthy essays, around 25 extracurriculars and several local awards in middle school and one national thing way back when. My GPA was pretty low though, low enough so that I initially wasn’t recommended for Governor’s School at my school in the first place.

I think PSAT can be a big factor, but I know people who got in with scores in the lower range.

Haha 11 APs? I don’t think that’s even possible at my school. I’ve skipped a few classes and I’ve only taken about 6 or 7.

Congrats on getting in though!

Congratulations to those that got in. I was sorry to see the most active members on this thread did not. I am sure you will each go on to do great things. Who knows why one candidate is accepted over another? I think it comes down to if the person reviewing your application likes something you write about. For my son, it may have been a special talent/passion he shared in his essay. I also think his LOR’s struck a chord with the reviewers. My son has a 4.0/6.0 GPA, 225 PSAT, 5 AP classes as well as classes in drafting and design, good EC’s, including robotics, and is #1 in his grade.

Congratulations to everyone that got in! I’ll see you all there! To those who didn’t, there are so many opportunities out there. Don’t get down on yourself because of test scores and things like that. I got a 193 on my PSAT and still got in. I promise that there is hope for the future.

Hello,
congrats to everyone who made it. I was wondering for the people who got in, what are your advice for applying to GSET next year? Is there certain criteria’s I would need like certain grade range because mine is sort of low?
Thank you in advance!

@minniemice18 Unfortunately, nobody made it except @veggylover’s son.

I’m glad I got to talk with y’all and live the excitement of the process with you folks. It was fun while it lasted and it taught me the reality of these processes. To those who made it: congrats. Have a hell of a time for us. For those of us who didn’t, it seems we all had back-up plans so we’ll be fine. I know I’ll be busting my butt trying to get a co-authorship with a uni professor this summer. Hopefully this won’t be a taste of the college process, but I hope this has humbled us all.

@minniemice18 don’t stress about grades too much. Yes, they’re important, but everyone here has good enough grades. Express your passion for science through these essays and don’t just try to blow through them. Show who you truly are and what you truly want out of Governor’s School. I spent hours on those essays, and that’s what I think got me in.

yo doa y of yall know if a fb group for this exists

Just out of curiosity, did most people who got in actually do the elevator pitch? My guidance counselor screwed me over and never told me about the online section until the day before so I never got a chance. I’m just vaguely curious to know if that had anything to do with my rejection.

@eugeneccatalan: I don’t know of a fb group for GSET. My S is not very chatty, so he probably would not join it.
But please post here if you decide to start one.

@futurengineer: My S was accepted and did not do an elevator pitch. He was actually quite sick when he completed the application/essays and wasn’t up to it.

@kmulpen I hope so because I want to apply for GSET and I’m taking computer science this year and I’m pretty sure I’ll be getting a B in that this year. Also, my grade for my math class, I won’t be able to get an A but I’ll be getting a high B sadly but, I will be getting a really high grade in my science class. Hopefully, this will not be the reason I don’t get in.

Hey GSET 2014 attendees- I’m so excited for this summer. Feel free to message me !
Can’t wait to meet y’all in person!
