Hi. A friend just reccomended this website to me after they heard I was going to be applying to law school. I was hoping to receive some feedback on my chances for admissions. Thanks.

I just finished my Junior year at NYU. I have a 3.62 GPA, majoring in philiosophy. I just took the LSAT, and don't have my scores yet, but I've taken 12 practice tests averaging 167, with a high of 171. I'm a Hispanic male, with experience interning at a law firm last summer as well as right now. My personal statement I feel will be strong, and I think I have good reccomendations. I've also competed in varsity athletics since I was a freshman.

I plan on applying to Harvard, NYU, Washington and Lee, Columbia, Penn, Boalt, Michigan, Chicago, Duke, Emory, and Virginia.

Thanks again for any help you can provide.

a better website for law chances, etc. :

lawschooldiscussion.org

I think you will be a very competitive candidate, especially if you get that score around 171. The fact that you are Hispanic also helps your chances substantially I would think.

why not just apply to all 14? lol. I'm sure you'll get into a good many even with the not so hot gpa as you're generally granted leniency for being a URM.

You will then be admitted to precisely eight of the schools to which you applied. The woman of your dreams will sit next to you in torts. After you marry her, she will bear you two children, and boy and a girl, who will also attend NYU, and will each earn GPAs of 3.62, and will take the LSAT. But I can't tell you anything specific about their chances at law school admissions until they get their LSAT scores. Capiche?

greybeard i actually loled to that. thanks.

You're welcome. I know that it's tough to deal with the anxiety of waiting for LSAT scores, law school admissions, or bar exam results. Good luck.

Ok so I wound up with a 169. Any thoughts on my chances now? Thanks.

Congrats- ya done good. You really should be able to get into a few T-14's with those #'s, and I'd say Fordham is a definite.

Those #'s are not going to wow Columbia, NYU, or U Penn, but you should be ok with Cornell and Georgetown- and maybe Duke too but realize that nothing in life is guaranteed. Start thinking about your personal statement and other aspects of application. There are a whole bunch of admission calculators which are mentioned on LSD.org - but your #'s are pretty solid, and I think you definitely have a shot at some of the "lower ranked" T-14.

Just re-read your list of schools- W and L and Emory seem promising, but I wouldn't count on too many acceptances from the rest of the list (maybe one or two ). I think you should look into Cornell and Georgetown too if of course their program meets your needs.- Your #'s may make you a more likely candidate at those schools. Boalt may be ok if you are from California, but if you are OOS, Boalt may not be an easy acceptance.
Good luck

You'e got a solid shot at most of the top 14. You might actually think about applying to all of them, plus a few safeties. (That would require a considerable outlay of time and money, so you may find yourself crossing a few of them off the list, particularly those with unusual essay requirements.)

Best of luck.
