New Members of CMU Class of 2011

thanks for the insight c1utch. i guess i'll have to see what's closest to the gym and engineering dept. when i go down for my overnight visit

I got deferred from SCS :( (my first choice school).
At least now I have a double-chance as I applied to both SCS and MCS.

SAT: 2290. I won't even bother posting my GPA as the differences between schools are too big for judging by them w/o experience from school (ie. some schools would give a 4.0 UW for the same amount of work that other schools would only give a 3.0 UW to). I did have decent ECs and a decent essay.

aw good luck cesium!

whats up guys
anyone going to tepper next year?

Oh and on the "Where am I in the process" website, I saw that they sent me a document called the "Competition Questionnaire" but I don't think I've ever gotten that. Anyone know what that is?

My daughter just got in RD...she's an athlete so the coach called her. We won't get the official letter until March and then financial aid package in April. I don't know what to expect on the financial aid. It's just soooo expensive. Not sure we can afford it...heck, what am I saying, we can't afford it!

It's probably worth saying that in comparison to other schools (especially big state schools), all of the dorms are close. The actual campus is quite small (you can walk from one side to the other in 10 minutes), and the farthest dorms are 5 minutes away if you walk slowly. The farthest apartments that CMU sublets to students are a 10-15 minute walk. While I definitely like being able to walk to class in 5 minutes, there is nothing that is really far and inconvenient.

And Donner really did smell last year, for almost the entire year. It didn't smell inside, unless the windows were open, but if you walked by WW/Resnik, you could smell it.

Morewood (Gardens and E-Tower) and the apartments are the only housing open during winter break, so I've been told that most (all?) freshman basketball players are housed in Morewood, since they have to practice and whatnot during the holidays.

ahhh I got into Tepper too! I'm sooo excited =) =)

Yes I got into H&SS. Maybe not their most well-known school, but i like it. I'm planning to major in econ. Whos with me?

I believe the Economics major is moving from H&SS to Tepper. That means you might end up getting a Tepper diploma (which is far more prestigious of course than H&SS). I'm not sure though.

My son presented his portfolio in early February on campus (seeking admission into Industrial Design); any idea when he should expect to be hearing an admission decision? Thanks.

lol who told you that....you really think an econ grad from h+ss is any worse off then an econ grad from tepper? you honestly think someone who reviews the applications for jobs cares about H+SS econ vs Tepper econ? Ask one and they'll likely say that they stop caring after they read CMU which school they got it from

congrats on getting in steve

yo I got in to H&SS too

I got into Tepper for '11 but my parents want me to transfer to CIT and then get an MBA later... I am not sure if that is what I am going to do though

tuition is ridiculous too

I am going to do the exact same thing as steve338

I got into the CIT, but I don't know if I'm going to end up going. Pittsburgh is quite a trip for me and (I suspect) I won't get much financial aid. Certainly cost isn't everything, but the inability to afford a school quickly makes it a "no."

I got my acceptance letter a while ago, but I haven't heard anything about finaid... should I be worried? Has any one else also not-heard yet?

I'm pretty sure the majority of peopla haven't heard, actually- I know I haven't, and the gist of what I've heard from the wall at the CMU '11 Facebook group seems to confirm this.

But seriously, financial aid? Come on. The real essence of life is being in $150,000 debt, lying on the streets at 2 in the morning looking face up at Ivan the cossack who just broke both of your kneecaps because you've been owing La Familia the money for quite some time now.

(Oh, and yes, accepted. MCS, although I'll be doing SHS.)
