Rutgers University and other partners plan to build a performing arts center that will allow the Mason Gross School of the Arts to launch a musical theater program and expand its opera program. The arts center is expected to open for the fall 2019 semester, when Mason Gross will launch its musical theater program.
This is exciting! Our D loved the acting summer program so much! Great school, great location!
wonderful!
Wow…this will be a very interesting program to watch! Fabulous location so close to NYC and that stellar acting program already! Wow. Wow. Wow.
Has anyone heard how they are handling prospective kids interested in the new MT program? Has the curriculum been released?
This is going to become one of the countries best MT programs, I am sure. The acting program is already stellar, acceptances to MGSA are low. Add that to the new facilities and the proximity to NYC and that seems like an easy win. I’m excited for MGSA.
Is it officially happening? I remember when they first announced it a year ago, but I haven’t heard anything about it since. I was wondering if it was put on hold or if it’s actually going forward.
Wondering the same thing here…I don’t see any updates on the website yet.
I did some searching and found this: http://www.masongross.rutgers.edu/content/nbpac-will-allow-students-mix-professional-artists-very-cool-environment
It looks like they’re waiting for the performing arts center to be completed before launching the MT BFA program, and it’s taking longer than originally expected.
@actorparent1 thank you for finding that article! I’ve been hoping the program will be an option for my D to explore – she graduates from HS in 2020.
Have also been waiting to see what happens with USC’s postponed “contemporary” MT program (whatever that means!).
We asked Rutgers admissions about this at L.A. Unifieds and got a vague answer that they weren’t really clear about when it would start up but it would likely be associated with the Music dept rather than Theater.
Interesting - is this for the New Brunswick campus? I had liked Rutgers as an option for my daughter because it’s reasonably close to home for us (2 to 2.5 hours), but is also far enough away for my daughter that mom and dad can’t pop in on a weeknight.
She won’t even consider Hartt because it’s in our backyard and only has a mild interest in UConn because she’s intrigued by the semester in London that they have with their BFA Acting program, which is highly rated.
Yes, it’s New Brunswick.
Word is Fall 2019 https://news.rutgers.edu/news-release/rutgers-enters-partnership-build-performing-arts-center/20170405#.WwMDgCAh2M8
Any update on Rutgers MT program in New Brunswick? Will the Rutgers Camden program move to New Brunswick? What’s the plan for prospect students. Can they apply this Fall (2018)? Thanks!
You are reading my mind! I came to the boards today just to check to see if anyone had updated this because there isn’t anything on their website. Has anyone contacted them?
I haven’t contacted them, but was hoping to hear more by now too…anyone have any insight as to whether this will be a possibility for this audition season for the class of 2023?
The program is planned to start in the fall of 2020 so applications will be open in the fall of 2019.
To follow up AnitaMac’s question, is the Rutgers Camden program moving to New Brunswick?
