I found out a few months ago on the USC Thornton School of Music website that there will be a new major of Bachelor of Music in Music Production offered in Fall 2015. I was wondering if anyone else were aware and applied for this major too? I feel like not many people know about this upcoming major so I wanted to know if anyone else applied.

Hi-
My son applied for this. He was planning to apply to Music Industry program but we visited the school in November and the rep from Thornton told us about this because he said he wanted to be a producer. It wasn’t even live on the website yet, so she had to send us a special link to figure out how to apply. It went live less than a week before the app deadline so we are hoping not too many people knew about it…

She said they are taking 10 as a pilot program in the fall. It quickly became my son’s first choice. Did you apply?

Thank you for replying! Was craving to know if anyone else applied as well.

I was thinking of applying to either the Music Industry or Popular Music program but I found this new major on the audition requirement page a month before the application deadline. I was never told about this major although a USC college rep visited my high school. She did not really know about Thornton either so I had to do my own research.

Yes, I applied too! I am also dreaming to become a music producer and I know it is one of the few schools that offers an actual music production major instead of music technology or music engineering programs. USC wasn’t one of my top choice schools until I found out about this program. I’m really hoping that not many people applied to this too…

Do you have any idea when your son would hear back from USC for the audition invitation?

They said “late December” so I assume it will be soon. We are also hoping maybe 11 ppl applied for 10 slots

I can’t imagine there are nearly as many people who could have found out about it, so a lot less competitive than music industry, we hope! Let’s cross our fingers, good luck!!

Me too! That’s great news for both of us! Which date has he been invited? Mine is on January 25th. I have my MIDI sequence audition at 9am and my interview at 1.30pm.

He’s also at 9am on the 25th, with a 2:15 interview. They may be putting everyone in the same lab at the same time. What is your name? My son is Jack I’ll tell him to look out for you. See you there, and congrats!

I will introduce myself as Sunny for now. I will most probably be coming alone. I’m sure he would later know who I am haha. Anyway, see you there!

S auditioned for Music Production in late January! @Cameron121… I believe we met your son at auditions. S is stressing out waiting as the Music Production program at USC could not be a more perfect match for him / passion / future career goals.
I don’t know if we met or not (don’t remember anyone from Utah), but it is my son’s first choice too. He didn’t think his audition went well, as he had multiple computer glitches/crashes and did not have time to really master the recording to his liking. Who really knows b/c he’s a perfectionist. Good news is that it has also lowered the stress of waiting a bit b/c he thinks he blew it, and he was accepted to another top choice EA. But, they supposedly auditioned 20 kids for 10 spots, so just on a yield basis, they almost need to accept everyone to get 10 kids. We’ll see…
@Cameron121… hmmmm, I thought we had met and chatted with a young man named Jack at auditions. We moved from UT and are now in SoCal. So glad to be back in California (we had previously lived in the Silicon Valley). Loved living in the mountains of UT, but I simply could NOT take any more snow S had the same thoughts coming out of his audition… funny, he’s a perfectionist as well. In any event, congrats on your son’s acceptance into another top choice EA! That’s wonderful news!
The results are out on the YouSC portal! I got accepted into the Music Production program!!! Any idea on how many people were selected for the program?
@cellokitty - Congrats to you ! My son is ecstatic because he just heard yesterday that he was admitted. We’re all kind of in shock (and awe) here. We still want to ask about the flexibility of the curriculum - if you know anything please pass it along. That audition was a little bit stressful but we felt it was totally appropriate for that major.
