new residential colleges

Dear Rice undergraduates:

In August 2009, and for only the second time since 1971, Rice University will open the doors to new residential colleges, Burt and Deedee McMurtry College and Anne and Charles Duncan College. As you may know, these new colleges will begin their lives under unusual but thrilling circumstances: During their first year, Duncan and McMurtry Colleges will each be assigned approximately 75 freshmen who will share their homes with Baker and Will Rice students - and Masters, RAs and College Coordinators - as the latter two colleges undergo extensive renovation (also an exciting story, but not the subject of this e-mail). Baker will reside at Duncan, and Will Rice will reside at McMurtry. The opening of new colleges poses many interesting questions and challenges. In this e-mail, the first of what will be a series of such communications over the next year, I want to let you know about some opportunities for you to join, and play a central role in, this adventure.

......

This is a rare opportunity to play a leading role in an initiative that will forever energize our campus, and enhance the Rice experience for all.
