Hello! I will be taking the new SAT on March 5 and the only thing that is hindering me from doing well is the reading section. I have NO clue how to go about efficiently taking the test. I’ve been taking practice tests with no signs of improvement. Does anyone have tips on how to score higher? Thank you!
Me too. Thank those who help!
Doing tons of practice questions won’t be much help unless you can analyze why you are choosing wrong answers instead of the right ones. The most common errors are related to misreading the passage, language issues, vocabulary problems, misreading the questions, misreading the answers. Never jump to conclusions, and always be able to either explain why the 3 wrong answers are wrong or identify the part of the passage that shows why the right answer is right. If you are guessing, mark the questions so that you can determine whether you tend to guess right or wrong.
If timing is the problem, then learn to adjust your reading speed. Introductions and conclusions are the most important sections along with the topic sentences of each paragraph, the majority of the rest can be skimmed. Remember that you get points for answering questions not for reading every word in the passages.
Everyone is different, and you might want to try different strategies depending on what passage type you are dealing with.
