My son took ACT once as a sophomore and scored 35 Composite (36 M, 36 S, 36 W, 30 R) and new SAT once as a junior and scored 1560 (800 M 760 W/R)…which test or both should he submit to very selective schools?
Both are excellent, but the Reading score in the ACT is a little out of line. I would just send the SAT score.
Thank you. Looking at colleges it seems there are more 75 percentile scores that are above 1560 when compared to a 35 on the ACT. It seems that the SAT is easier to get a 1600 than the ACT is to get a 35 or 36. So, was wondering if he submits both then they can see the Reading was an anomaly since he got a 39 in Reading on the SAT…it just seems the overall score of 35 is above most schools 75% score…
Well, that’s a little misleading brazos, because of the people who take the SAT vs ACT. The numbers are so different that you can’t just compare by 75 percentile… it doesn’t mean it’s easier to get 1600 than 36… there is no reasonable evidence to support that conclusion. I would say the 1560 SAT is more impressive, the reading score on ACT could cause some worries.
Send both.
I highly doubt any college in the world is going to reject you because you got C35 but “only” R30. I’m pretty sure you’ve passed the magic threshold to have the rest of your College Application considered.
Definitely send both. Admissions officers look for reasons NOT to accept students. Neither of these scores provide them a reason to do so.
Sending both can only help, as they corroborate the fact that your son seems to be more inclined to mathematics and sciences than reading/writing. They give the committee a clearer image of what kind of student he is.
Best of luck!
Couple these scores with a potential engineering/quantitative major, and you’ll have a very strong application!
