Hey guys, so heres the deal... I went to Junior College in Cali and now I'm at Ohio State. My cousin goes to the school, but she is a social butterfly and has her own social life. She told me to join a frat, but I honestly don't know anyone besides her. I have 3 roommates (dorms), and while they are nice two of them are gay and have completely different types of lives from me. The other one I hardly know. My cousin only texts me to tell me where a party is at, but usually isnt going because she is off during her own thing. This is the beginning of the semester, so I'm sure I can get in because of "Rush" but the thing is I have no idea what the **** I would do once I was in there since I don't know anyone. I dont just want to go up to every single person and act like a ******bag introducing myself.

I'm also in this dorm with all upperclassmen, so its really boring since they have already "been there and done that". I'm here bored out of my mind and want to do something, but I got no one to really chill with at the moment.

Should I just forget about joining the frat, and how long does it take to really get comfortable at a big time school? I've only been here a couple of days, but I cant take this for a couple months lol.

I know a few people in my fraternity who joined their sophomore year and even their junior year. All you do man is go to a party and be yourself. I’m pretty sure a few people would approach you since they never saw you before. A fraternity loves to have more people pledge and become brothers. You don’t have to go to every single brother and introduce yourself. Just introduce yourself to a few of them and I’m pretty sure more of them will know you. Keep going to the house that your most interested in and make your presence somewhat known. When they know you a bit more or are interested in you joining they will probably ask for your cell and invite you to future parties or other events like a regular pick up basketball game. Thats what my house did and I do know others do it also. Some houses also do informal rushes and spring rush so yeah just ask them about rushing and stuff. Best of luck man. Being part of a fraternity was my best decision until I had to transfer of finances. I don’t exactly want to recommend my fraternity even though they have a chapter there but if your that desperate send me a PM man.

Have you tried flirting with some girls? signing up for a club? starting up a study group? make some small talk at the library?

Post your question on the Ohio State page and ask for ideas.

Or, have you ever been involved in community service? If so, have you considered joining APO? Check facebook “Alpha Phi Omega - Alpha Iota Chapter” at OSU. This is a service fraternity, not a “Greek” social fraternity. It’s co-ed. (The “brothers” include women.) They would love to have you. (Seriously!)
