Thinking about applying undecided (nonengineering), leaning towards English, maybe Math, Economics

How are my chances at these schools:
Duke
Brown
Dartmouth
Penn
Georgetown
UNC-Chapel Hill
Princeton (I know, I know, an uber reach)
UGA (safety)
Georgia Tech (safety)
Emory (safety)

Do you go to Riverwood? I went to North Springs and I was a drama/film magnet student! Oh, the memories! Your SAT score is good enough for any of those schools and it definitely will not hinder your chances anywhere. Your GPA and ECs are okay but not stellar. I think you have a chance at all the schools. But almost all your schools, except the ones you list as safeties, are reaches. I would also caution you against not listing your race. If you are a White (non-hispanic) which I am assuming you are, it is worse if you put nothing (I have heard this hinders admissions chances even more), so just put down what you are. Write great essays and get good recs and I think you have a reasonable shot at getting into at least one of your reach schools.

"If you are a White (non-hispanic) which I am assuming you are, it is worse if you put nothing (I have heard this hinders admissions chances even more), so just put down what you are"

really? who said so? and for what schools... why would it hinder when the ethnicity slot is optional?

Eh. . .I'm caucasian, but not white. I guess I could put either Asian or White, as I'm Iranian. But I'm not a fan of putting my race down, so even if it hurts me, forget it. But where did you read that it can hurt one's chances?

Thanks for the words though, they're all definitely reaches. Hopefully I get lucky at one or two. athenany where else are you applying besides dartmouth?

have you been able to visit? I'm kinda rethinking whether or not I will apply there. It seems cool, but it also seems to be in the middle of nowhere. I'm not so sure of what I want anymore really.

and cboryca i do not go to Riverwood, though I have heard of it. Tis a good IB school, the word on the street be.

If you're not sure of what you want you should consider going to review.com. There you can fill out a survey and they will give you ideas of reach, good match, and safety schools that match your interests and preferences. You should check it out.
And I have to say that I'm not sure of the source that told me that about the race issue, it was one of my classmates. I could be wrong, I dunno.

I have tried Princeton Review in the past and I think it is largely inaccurate in calculating chances for schools and determining match, reach, and safeties.

But it is pretty good at finding some schools that have what I'm looking for, you're right. Thanks for the words again.
