New "Self-study AP" mega-thread?

The one thread "Self-Studying APs: Improving Your App" we have at the top of the forum was made in 2007, and many chances were made to the various AP exams since then. Many APs that used to be self-study friendly are no longer, such as AP Biology due to the new exam format. Many have also mentioned that the AP Gov and AP Enviro Sci tests are getting harder while APUSH is actually pretty easy? What do you guys think about having a new megathread on self-studying APs?

Bump 3 pages.
It’s a good idea.
I took the Calculus BC AP exam while being in a Calculus AB class. The test wasn’t bad, and I got a 5 with an AB subscore of 5.

Might do statistics or compsci :)

I’m trying to decide which ones I want to self-study right now. I will be taking Stats, Physics B, Lit & US Gov as classes but one to take an additional exam or two for college credit. The ones I am considering right now…

Macroeconomics. I think I would do well, I was really good at my general economics class. It’ll also get one required gen ed out of the way at my top choice school. However the exam is the same day as senior fun day / senior breakfast / graduation rehearsal which I don’t really want to miss. Don’t really want to take a late exam after summer already started, either.

Human Geography. I’m pretty damn good at geography. It’ll be fairly easy I’m sure but it’ll only count as elective credit at my top choice college.

Comparative Government. I’m already taking US Government, shouldn’t be too hard I don’t think.

Calculus BC. I took AB this year (got a 4) and have a teacher very willing to help me out if I get confused. It’ll get me a lot of credit, but I want to be an engineer and not sure I’d be confident going on to Calc III with a self-study, so I’m not sure what the point is.

Would AP Language or Literature be possible to self study? One of my friend have regular English, took AP Language and got a 4, which is pretty good considering he took REGULAR English.

I’m thinking of studying for Human Geo, Macro/Microecon and Environmental science

And Question: How exactly CAN we improve our apps with self-studied AP’s if they aren’t included on our transcripts? Where would I mention them?

You could mention them under AP scores. And it’s even better getting a self-studied 5 or 4, because 1) you didn’t need a class, that’s motivation and 2) your grade wasn’t effected

I am self studying Human Geography, Psychology, Macro/Micro, and Gov US. But its not because I want to show “ohhh look at my huuuuuuge list of aps”, I need to get humanities off my course work so I can double major.

^^ don’t bother with human geo. Find me a school that gives credit for it?

If you self study and do bad on the exam, do you still have to submit your score?

I’m taking U.S Gov next year, but it’s online (basically a self-study). I’ve heard good things about PR and Crash Course. Which one is better?

PR is pretty good for U.S gov. For all of you guys self-studying humanities APs, I have taken all of them except Euro and World and all except Macro/Micro is just fact cramming that can be done in a month time.

@Gestone How did you go about self studying Macro/Micro? Could I self study just from review books?

I personally used an actual textbook, but I hear that the Princeton Review is sufficient for both.

@div301 My local university, The University of Georgia, accepts it.

@div301 CMU, RPI, my state university accept it as well. But you are correct, some schools do not. I will look at my acceptance list next year and begin cramming if necessary. One question, my school automatically orders the tests for us if we are taking the class, but by what time do they need to know if we are self studying.

@bailey
Human Geography is one of the easier APs, along with comparative government. If you only got a 4 on AB I wouldn’t recommend self-study BC. If you’ve already taken a general econ class, macroecon is probably your most best bet.

Which would be easier to study, environmental science or both of the economic APs?
Also what should I use to self study ?
